Peace & Justice Center Open House
“Sweet Peace” Open House Jan. 12

Let’s come together in the new year to celebrate the 20th year of our work for peace & justice. You are invited to the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine “Sweet Peace” Open House, Saturday, January 12th, 4-6 p.m., 170 Park Street, Bangor. Come and enjoy chocolate and other sweet desserts, fruit, cheese and snacks. Bring your children to make origami peace doves, create posters for the Martin Luther King commemoration and join in a sing-along for children of all ages. There will be a showing of photos of past peace & justice actions and events and an opportunity to chat with other peace & justice members and to learn about ways you can be involved in helping to grow peace in our region. Whether you are a long time member or just becoming involved, whether you are young, old or somewhere in between, we look forward to spending time with you and talking about how we can keep the Center going and growing.

1. Park Street
Is this at the top of the hill above Bangor City Hall? Every time I visit Bangor lately I rediscover a lot of places I first knew as a college student in the late 60s and early 70s. That neighborhood up there was pretty active back in the day with students and hippies and generally cool people. IIRC the commune that operated near Ellsworth in the 70s got its start in an apartment up there at the top of Park Street. Man those were good times.

Anyway, good luck with the Open House. Hope you get lots of folks.

2. 170 Park St.

As much as I would like to be I am not a regular there due to the long commute. (the commute has not significantly changed since the 70s when I did frequent it more regularly but I am a whole lot grayer and travel costs a LOT more. When there I never fail to enjoy the company though and I try to keep abreast of what's happening there.

Do you remember when the Bagel Shop was in that tiny little cellar on the hill? I was there when a most unpleasant gestapo like Fire Inspector condemned it.
