I want to come home
I left New Year's Eve 1986, part of the oil crash diaspora, who had a good job in Washington, D.C. waiting. I was getting out of a bad relationship with an alcoholic, and going to DC was great.

Now I live in Fargo, ND, my wife's homestate.

I am heart sickened by what has happened.

I want to come home, and be a part of the future of New Orleans.

And I think I've finally convinced my wife that moving there is possible.

I believe the city will be rebuilt. It is an act of faith.

I want to be in that number. (God, I can't believe I said that. How corny. How true).

This will sound opportunistic, but it's a fact. Some people won't go back. If you know of anyone involved in Human Resources who is not going back, please drop my a line. If I can find my wife a job, I'm sure I can find something to do. I test computer software now, but I could--if I had to--go back to sysadmin or even working as a tech. Hell, I'll deal in a casino if I have to.

I just want to come home. I've lived in exile for 20 years. That's long enough.

TIA

6. Definitely you should go home and help rebuild that beautiful
city into what it was only even better. I love New Orleans and have always said it is like no other place in the United States. But I want it rebuilt in the same manner it was, not highscrapers with glass windows going up 34 stories, but with buildings not much more than 3 stories with verandas on each floor and that wonderful ironworks handrails, etc. I don't want people like Trump trying to rebuild New Orleans. I want Jimm Carter and Habitat for Humanity to build decent houses for the poor people because they are the ones who make it different than other cities. Do go home, and do pay attention to what's going on, for the sake of those of us who want to visit like we've done so many times in the past.

7. I'm with you, and I was only there for three years in the first place!
I understand now that there is no such thing as an "ex-" New Orleanian. I'm in the disabilities field, and don't you know, one of the few guys I know from back in the day who's still there runs the office where the city's ADA coordinator is housed! He turned up in Houston; I have contacted him, and if the ADA coordinator comes down with "Denny Hastert Syndrome" and doesn't come back... who knows?
