ALERT: A Doug Compton posting
Someone is breaking the silence in Lawrence. There's a hotly contested battle in Lawrence going on, just days after Dean's appearance, for the city commission. This posting (on a local) forum has connected the dots to the Journal World. It was the last in a series of postings that have brought up questions of illegal campaign donations, "Club for Growth" money, a Florida GOP-push polling company and the news paper. Donors were listed with their construction/realtor/self-interests revealed.

If you know anyone in the Lawrence area have them call the Journal World and ask them "What the hell is going on?" Or have them contact the outside media.

Here's the post on the local forum:

Let me know if you recognize any of these names:

GCB Holdings L.C., acting on behalf of Postal Investors L.C., bought the 24,600-square foot building for $425,777 and will take possession Sept. 1, said Theresa K. Klinkenberg, university director, administration.

Postal Investors L.C. is composed of Lawrence businessmen Dan Simons, Dolph Simons III, Todd Sutherland, Tim Fritzel, Andy Fritzel, Thomas Fritzel, Gene Fritzel and Doug Compton. It's likely the building, 645 New Hampshire St., will eventually house offices and retail space but no decision about its future use has been made yet, Tim Fritzel said.

And then there's this:

Bill Newsome*, Riverfront LLC, presented a revised request concerning the development of a Marriott Hotel at the Riverfront Plaza. The Riverfront Group met with staff, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Downtown Lawrence Inc.

How does this relate to the Journal World? Well you have to know who is in the Riverfront LLC:

"Officials looking to expand the Lawrence Public Library are mulling an offer from Dan Simons, part owner and managing member of Riverfront LLC, to buy half of the former mall. /

Need more clarification?

Members of the library board began discussing the need to improve the library's downtown operations in November. At that time, the group received a presentation from Dan Simons, a member of Riverfront LLC, which owns the former mall. Simons also is president of the electronic division of The World Company, which publishes the Journal-World. ;read=10683#10683 Questions about anonymous donations for Bracciano ;read=10667#10667 The case of the disappearing donors. ;read=10598#10598 (This is just a portion of what is being exposed that the local media is ignoring. This from a campaign report for one of the city commission candidates. Each name is an embedded link that explains the business each donor has. Most are realtor/development related.)

While I was unable to find any information on this PAC, I was able to trace the P.O. Box. to:
Laborers' Local 142
Richard C. Anderson, Business Manager
P.O. Box 8098
1947 N. Topeka Blvd., Ste. G
Topeka, KS 66608

Phone: (785) 232-3688

In a side note, Craft-ee Crafters mall is also located at 1947 N. Topeka Blvd.

100 Watkins Dan & Phyllis.
"Kubota and officials of Classic Real Estate, developer of the northeast corner, said they would accept design guidelines. Both expressed concerns about a 450,000-square-foot cap on commercial space at the intersection.

"We believe that ... may be too restrictive for long-range planning at this node," said Lawrence attorney Dan Watkins, a Classic Real Estate representative."

100 Wagstaff Carolyn & Dick retired, commercial real estate

100 Stephens Robert L. Founder Stephens Real Estate. "Stephens Real Estate, Inc. was founded in 1978, and from the beginning we've been dedicated to maintaining the special quality of life we enjoy here in Lawrence. We're proud of the role we play in helping you select a home or business in the Lawrence and Douglas County area."
How many former Stephens Real Estate employees have gone on to be elected to public office (from city commission to Kansas Legislature) OR have been appointed to the various planning boards over the years? Let's see how many we can name.

2. Yep.
Here's a snippet from a larger article, re: hiring of Bill Self as new KU coach.

Private Plane: The airplane that flew Self and his family to Lawrence from Champaign, Ill., and back is owned by Sutherland Lumber Co. and Home Centers. The Sutherland family, including Todd Sutherland of Lawrence and Dwight Sutherland of Kansas City, are longtime Kansas boosters.
