Great job, protesters!!
Bush received a hero's welcome, with long standing ovations and loud applause as he defended his most controversial positions. There was a noisy crowd of a couple hundred sign-waving anti-war protesters outside the arena where Bush appeared. "Wage war, not peace!" they chanted to a drumbeat.

6. I was there, and no one (at least not by the time we left)

was even chanting 'wage peace, not war.' We did chant something to the effect of not wanting this liar's war, what does democracy look like? this is what democracy looks like, and hey hey * has got to go.
Maybe the peace/war was chanted after the speech, but not before while people were going in.

On edit, the only chant that went on while people were waiting to go in was about not wanting this liar's war, and that was for less than 2 minutes about 5 minutes before the line disappeared through the door. Our other chants happened with only secret service standing around waiting on * to show up.

So, if they're implying we were noisy and bothersome to the crowd waiting to get inside, they're wrong.

15. I don't mind being noisy and making my point
but I try not to be obnoxious. Although, even just standing there some people felt the need to tell us how annoying we were.

That's their lack of education, thinking that anyone with a different opinion is just trying to cause trouble. Idiots.

My grandma (a Bu** fan, mostly) told me that protesting doesn't really change any minds. I told her, "that's not what it's about. It's about taking a stand." I hate that no one cares to realize that while we'd like people to open their eyes and face the truth, by standing out there we're just trying to make a point. Someone needs to hold the government accountable and if you can't count on the American people, who can you count on?

Now that you are employed, I am sure it would have been hard to take a day off to go protest the prez. :sheesh:

20. Dear Rep. Cleaver,
I'm a veteran who doesn't get Veteran's Day off, while banking and government employees do.
To compensate, I think only people of Irish descent should have St. Patrick's Day off. We promise to spend the day in Mass.
Amen.

Or maybe I've got just got a skewered viewpoint based on the (in)action of my Irish lad.

19. Here's my question: If he was invited to give a lecture
why did he just stand up and give stump speeches as though he were campaigning? Don't most presidents, when asked to a University to give a lecture, discuss topics about life and philosphy, to give people something to think about and take with them? Isn't that why people go to these lectures, to hear the thoughts of great men?

So why did Bush stick to his routine?

Oh yeah, because he is a pathetic moron and all he knows how to do is give campaign speeches.

He has no insight or deep thoughts to share with the students.

Once he got on board with the talking points, and once it became clear that this was going to be just another stump speech, the audience should have booed his pathetic ass right out of that auditorium.

But, no, they're pathetic Bush sycophants.

Sorta like going to a Beatles show for them. What is said (or played) is irrelevant and can't be heard, because the people there are just so damn excited to see the people they worship in person that they won't stop screaming.

and the mental image of dubya giving a lecture to college students is just too gross.

27. Its just so disgusting
search speech archives or databases that have lectures given by sitting or former presidents at Universities, and I bet you won't find such a blatant political and campaign speech as the one Bush gave. Not anywhere...
