Kansas voters approve gay marriage ban
Constitutional amendment wins by big margin

The Associated Press
Updated: 11:50 p.m. ET April 5, 2005

TOPEKA, Kan. - Voters in Kansas overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment Tuesday banning same-sex couples from marrying or entering into civil unions.

With more than half of precincts reporting, 298,647 votes, or 70 percent, were cast in favor of a constitutional amendment, with 128,366, or 30 percent, opposed.

Gay marriage is already banned under Kansas law, and the law is not being challenged. But supporters of the ballot measure said the ban must be in the Kansas Constitution to insulate it from legal challenge.

Most voters appeared to brush aside critics’ arguments that the amendment could have unexpected consequences, such as preventing companies from offering health benefits to employees’ partners, gay or heterosexual."

1. i heard the same 70-30 with 66% reporting on the evening news
If memory serves, support is less over-whelming than it was in Missouri.

2. No matter
if and when one single state accepts gay mariage as valid,
then all 50plus states will go the same way,
since all the states have to accept US marriages as valid.

It's a loophole.
Kinda like how a woman can be legally married to another woman
if the one of the women happened to be man when they said their vows.
Which explains why Ann Coulter won't be marrying anyone outside of Utah.

3. The supporters of this amendment are bigoted assholes
I have seen them all over TV tonight celebrating. They are disgusting, vile people.

How in the world can someone champion such a bigoted, hateful law and at the same time claim to be standing up for God and for morality?

Makes me want to :puke:

4. Next time a tornado sweeps through Kansas, I hope --
-- Dorothy and Toto are spared and the mean-spirited cretins who voted for this ban are blasted to Kingdom Come.

not does not matter. They were not likely going to be invited to the wedding. Their lives or their marriages have not been saved. It is all so much smoke. Except they hurt people.

They will jump for joy and think they have done god's work. And nothing has changed in their own lives. They are just drinking the Kool-Aid. And acting tribal. Which means acting like kids.

I feel so sorry for the people who voted for this. Their own light has been dimmed. Their hearts diminished. The couple who wanted to get married will go on and grow and love and share with the world. Our Kansas friends have just made their lives smaller.

We have science now to teach us that brains are different for different people. The bible was without.

6. We need to start pushing for repeal
now and keep this issue in the face of every Republican officeholder, no matter if state or city or county or township, every day. Every candidate forum should include questions on this issue. We may also need to take a cue from Brother Fred. When demonstrating against divorced and remarried Republican officeholders, we need to carry signs saying "John Doe in Hell Mark 10:11". Or against any Republican,"John Doe in bed with Fred". The Republicans are engaged in war against us and we keep bringing knives to go up against machine guns. Keep the question alive.

7. they emptied the churches out on you
just like they did here in misery. These people are sneaky, they get you feeling like you can win, then on election day they come scurrying out from their orc holes and dump on ya, sneaky, sneaky, sneaky.
It would appear that this is the wrong issue at the wrong time, it inflames the brains of small minded people and gets them charged up so their masters can slip some odius piece of shit on the ballot as well.
I feel sorry for you, but we have to find an issue that will sting their leaders, like heavy prison time for pedophiles or incest.

8. heard a funny on the radio this morning
On AAR (Morning Sedition) they were rephrasing headlines. The one for the passage of the marriage amendment in KS was:
Land of Oz Shuns Friends of Dorothy

I am so depressed that my home state is so bigoted. But I got a good laugh out of this one.

9. local tv
I saw some'YES' supporter on TV saying that he was convinced that a majority of gay people aren't interested in long term relationships. Not sure how that applies to equality.

11. So, if gay people "aren't interested in long-term relationships",
how would allowing them to have some legal status as partners hurt the institution of marriage? I'll never understand these people.

Look at this intractive map of Kansas counties and how they voted.

http://www.kssos.org/ent/kssos_ent.html

Poor Douglas county all by its lonesome. I live in Johnson County where it was ONLY 60-40 so at least it wasn't as bad as the rest of the state! Only 60% of them need their marriages protected!!
