Would you support Vilsack if he runs for President in 08?
Head over to my blog the http://commoniowan.blogspot.com|Century of the Common Iowan and vote in the poll. Feel free to stay awhile and read some of the posts and check out the links to other Iowa blogs.

Thanks.

2. Depends on who the other candidates are.
I plan on supporting Edwards in '08, but if he doesn't run for whatever reason, Vilsack is an option.

4. Hell No!
I hope that was clear enough :eyes:

He has practiced alienation and ridicule as a way to establish any power or control he has had in Iowa. He is not an 'open door policy' Governor and gladly sells out his supporters if it means he promotes himself.

I DO NOT want that kind of person being the Democratic Party's nominee for President.

And, if the rumors are true that he's just vying for a cabinet or under-secretary position then he's even more of a user and attention-whore than I thought before. :puke:

5. I said no until Saturday
I don't know if I am a sucker or what but I think he cares about people and would make a good president. I have had a lot of interaction with the Vilsacks and I think they are good people. He held every single seat while I attached them in the West Liberty theater restoration project we did a few years back. Mrs. V scraped gum off the floor with a putty knife all day with my wife. She also got some funding for our Library expansion project. They work hard and I think they would be an excellent first couple. The orphan that grows up to be president that is a story people could run with.

6. Not if Edwards is running.
btw, Vilsack WILL run for President. A bunch of people were pulled down to a room on the lower level where Vilsack spoke to us and, while rules and regulations permitted him saying "I'm running for President," he made it abundantly clear that he plans to run and basically asked us for input.

I still have to go with Edwards, though.

7. I'm with Debi . . .
That would be a resounding NO!

While I do not dislike Tom Vilsack personally, and I concede that he gives great speeches, his eight years have been more disappointing to me than the Branstad sixteen years. Secrecy, Farm Bureau, English only, Values Fund, big pork, Wells Fargo welfare, CIETC, nursing home deregulation and privatization, gambling and more gambling, bio tech over organic farming . . . the list just goes on and on. On every bill that I wrote to him or contacted his policy team (like Dusky Terry) to sign or veto, he went the other way. Every time I felt like a friend had screwed me. I cannot support taking this record nationally . . .

8. He underwhelms me.
Politics aside, I think we are going to need someone with a little more pizazz.

Also, I can't imagine him getting much support outside of this state.

10. Agreed 100%.
He's just not a candidate that people can get excited about.

Is he capable? Absolutely.
Is he electable? I'm not so confident.

He'd make a damn good cabinet member (Ag? Ed? Atty General?), but I just don't fathom hearing the words "President Vilsack" anytime soon.
