Plus, Boswell beat back smarmy Thompson.

5. I kinda wonder

is this the start of Iowans realizing that the Republicans don't quite hold all the values of our citizenry?
For a while, there were good Republicans, but during the administration of one long-time governor, they started downhill badly.
I really feel that this could be the start of the real basic grassroots change to a Democratic state.

7. If we could somehow give the NW corner to South Dakota

Or maybe Nebraska, that would get rid of a very large number of wingnuts. Very high concentration of RW fundies in that part of the state.

9. Former NW Iowan - first time posting

I grew up in NW Iowa (I'm now in western IA). Yep, it's scary up there. My heart goes out to anybody fighting the good fight there.
My parents are 2 of a handful of Dems in their small town. But my Dad proudly slapped a "Veterans for Kerry" bumper sticker on his pickup! I hear that there is a change starting in Lyon county because of an overflow of liberals from Sioux Falls now living in NW IA.
Sioux county is the worst. I drive through there a few times a year and it kinda creeps me out. 7.5% registered Democrats there! Yikes

The people of NW Iowa are really scary. Orange City, Sioux Center.
