Small victories...
Seeing Jim Nussle standing in the back of the pack during the press conference with Harkin/Grassley. Knowing how Nussle stabbed Iowa in the back during the 1993 floods I'm very very pleased he is not our governor right now.

Stay safe and dry (as possible) folks.

:hi:

2. Ugh! Can you imagine how much worse it would be if he were running the show now?

4. He's probably letting Chertoff know that Iowa doesn't need any federal assistance
after all, he wanted us to wait in 1993 - why should we need any in 2008 :eyes:

Let's not forget:

<snip>

In 1993, Nussle launched a drive with former Rep. Tim Penny, D-Minn., to find offsets in other federal spending to pay for the $2.7 billion needed for Midwestern flood relief. Otherwise, the flood aid would have been paid for by declaring an emergency and borrowing the money.

Nussle and the rest of the Republicans in the Iowa delegation voted against a rule that would have allowed the spending bill onto the floor for debate. The Democratic-controlled House spent five days locked in a bitter fight, but eventually Nussle backed the final version of the spending bill after obtaining a promise the issue would get further study.

"The bottom line is the congressman voted for final passage," Ryan said.

Nussle contended in 1993 that the disaster aid was necessary, but so was finding a way to pay for it. "Yes, this is political suicide, I suppose, but we have to start asking the question for the next opportunity when we have to fund disaster assistance," Nussle said at the time.
