Rep. Baron Hill considering run for Indiana governor
Rep. Baron Hill considering run for Indiana governor

Updated: Dec 20, 2009 6:40 PM EST

Indianapolis - Rep. Baron Hill, who has faced weeks of rumors that he'll retire from Congress next year to run for Indiana governor in 2012, said he is considering a gubernatorial bid but will first run for another term in the House.

Hill's comments came just days after the National Republican Congressional Committee sent out an e-mail about the Indiana Democrat's so-called "retirement jitters."

The term actually came from a Congressional Quarterly story about Democrats who are retiring and those in tough districts. Hill was part of a larger list of "Democratic incumbents in competitive districts who will now be closely watched for retirement jitters."

Hill told The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., that he doesn't know how the rumors that he will retire from the House got started.

"I'm running for re-election," said Hill, who is serving his fifth term representing southern Indiana's 9th District.

"I want to go back. We're working on things like health care and energy independence, and we're now on the brink of getting these things done. But they're not done to my satisfaction. I want to go back to refine them."

Asked about rumors that he may run for Indiana governor in 2012, Hill replied: "I'm honestly thinking about it."

1. I personally hope he doesn't run for Governor.
I believe that he is worse than Bayh.

2. Hill has changed his tune on NAFTA, which he had supported in the past
Any ideas as to who else is running against Daniels?

3. Not Daniels
Daniels is prohibited by the state constitution from running
for a 3rd term. I can't believe Hill is worse than Bayh
though I did spend a day on the campaign bus with Hill a few
elections ago and was not impressed. I feel pretty confident
that Sec of State Rokita is running but look for some
numbskull like David McIntosh to run from somewhere to the
right of Sara Palin.

4. Is Mike Pence going to run?
He is a wicked little shit head!

Hoosier Republicans have a bottomless pit when it comes to crypto-nazis that can run for office.

5. No,
I don't think so. His stock (as he sees it) is too high in
congress. And wicked little shit head notwithstanding isn't
that the recipe for success in the shadow behind Boehner and
Cantor?

7. I figured it out over 20 years ago that it must be in the water.
Of course, it might be the inbreeding too. It takes a while to breed out the bad crap from people especially from the KKK period.

9. I'm expecting Tony Bennett to toss his hat into the ring.
By then the public school system will be on its death bed. As governor he could pull the plug for good.

10. Pence
Pence will run for president in 2012 or 2016 and Bayh will also run, maybe even in 2012 if he thinks Obama will lose in 2012.

8. Rokita has been using the SoS office to campign for "something" since he entered it.
IMO, he has abused the office, seizing every opportunity to get his name out there. Every PSA out of his office has felt like an ad for Todd Rokita. As a result, he likely has high name recognition. While I'm no huge fan of Baron Hill, it'll take someone of his stature to run against Rokita. Another candidate of Jill Long Thompson's stature won't cut it.
