Question from you folks in Indianapolis. Why does there seem |
|
to be no public transportation from the airport to other regions around the city? Perhaps there is a train or bus system and my daughter is too polite to tell us but each time we visit, she drives about three quarters around the city to get from her house to the airport. She lives in the Giest(sp) area. Is she just being nice to the old folks by picking us up or is there really no public transportation. We could save her a lot of time by taking a bus or train when we land to a point where it would be a short ride for her to pick us up. Three years ago, we went to Indy for Christmas in a horrible snow storm and it took my son-in-law over 2 hours to drive to the airport and back It was a horror show. Surely there has to be a way. Thanks

1. I think all the sleighs and pedicabs in Indiana are on strike. |

It's just too hard to cross I-465 on a bicycle. Storks only deliver babies and are not in the public transportation business (fundie dig here). The trolley tracks are all buried under asphalt so no trolleys anymore. Looks like a private car is it.

There is a bus system IndyGo - They do have a route to and from the airport.
Washington #8 (30 minutes?) Michigan #3 (40 minutes?)
And then maybe another 10 miles
Total time about 85 minutes one way. My guess.
Taking I465 route with Beech Grove on route about 30 miles. Time would depend on time of day. Using 70 across town about 25 miles. Would probably take longer than I465.

There is no way to get to Geist from the Airport. Not an easy one anyway. I am from the East Coast originally and I am APPALLED that a city this size has the tiny and antiquated public transportation system that it has.

was just being too nice and did not want us old folks to have to take the bus. Happy holidays!

5. I don't think I would want to spend about a 1 1/2 hours one way on a city bus. |
|
While it should take about 30-40 minutes by car if it isn't during rush hour.

Indianapolis has privatized public transportation, all of the hotels run shuttle buses to and from the airport.
As to Indy’s public transportation it is reserved for those too poor to own a car, transit times are 3 to 4 times what the same trip would take in a car and the downtown hub system insures that you can’t get anywhere without passing through the worst neighborhoods in the city....at least that’s how it was when I lived in Indy a while back.
