I see (before listening) a geeky looking guy droning on - and think to myself : "Maybe they are spoofing Harry Reid".

Then I realize the football ran late - it was the local news not SNL and the speaker was.... Miles Brand (former IU president) - on behalf of the NCAA. He was claiming that the grad rate for collegieate athletes was 77% and that they are striving for 80%. Here is the punch line -he doesn't break down different sports - so womens volleyball is compared to men's football - add all together for a grad rate .. and suddenly it seems like what I originally thought "an SNL spoof" was actually a pretty accurate assessment for what I was seeing. He is a spoof and doesn't even realize it.

1. Miles Brand
is a tool and spin master. Before anyone say's your just mad cause he fired Knight. Knight got bigger than IU and he's the first thing 90% of the public think of when someone says Indiana University, which was a good thing when he was winning, when he wasn't thats another story.

2. Indeed.
Not a lot of women's field hockey players leave after their freshman year to go pro.

What's more... until last year, if a basketball player, for example, transferred to a major university from a junior college and went on to earn a degree from that university - he was not counted in the graduation rate. The NCAA only tracked a school's incoming freshmen. Likewise, if a basketball player transferred away from your school - even if he graduated somewhere else - he did not count in the graduation rate for either school!

That's why Kelvin Sampson was said to have a zero percent graduation rate at Oklahoma.

They've changed that, but idiocy is still rampant at the NCAA and Brand is a doofus.
