Anybody see what two-faced Roe Conn did?
WLS's darling turned his back on his partner, Garry Meier, yesterday announcing that he would not leave whoredom/WLS with Garry as he had promised.

I happened to be in the car and listened to Roe go on and on for thirty minutes about his decision. Conn (such an appropriate name) pretty much blamed Garry for the contractual problems with WLS--and all but said that Garry's choice of his wife (a lawyer) as his agent was the reason for Garry's problems and he wasn't going to sacrifice his job for Garry's choices.

Roe Conn is a smart man. I listened to him for nearly ten years until last March when he started becoming outrageously intolerable in his support for the war. He actually insulted and hung up on callers. Garry, on the other hand, kept his opinions to him self most of the time. I think that Garry's less than gung ho political attitudes are the reason he was not favored by WLS management. Roe allowed a radio station's management to break up their partnership and the station in question is THE Chicago mouthpiece for liars and thieves.

WLS has no integrity whatsoever and now I know that none of their on-air entertainers do either--but I've known this for some time. I am still angry about WLS because they don't give a damn what their audience wants--they don't care about ratings, all they care about is lying and disseminating propoganda.

1. I saw Garry walking down Michigan near Washington last week.
He really looked beat. Thin, and pale. His hair was almost white. I wouldn't have recognized him except that I hung out with him once at a wedding reception at Dawes Mansion and knew it was him.

Screw 'LS. I haven't listened to them since I was in grade school unless I was in someone else's car and it happened to be on.

For such a Dem city, we sure have a lot of RW idiots on the radio here. I guess though, that we just have a lot of Talk Radio here, so you have to take the good with the bad.

5. Garry's hair was white??? I just saw a photo of him and it was dark
but considering he's in his 50's - he may have it dyed and now is letting it go.

2. Roe Conn has been...
...de-volving into just another Hannity/Limbaugh-type character for a while now. When are these clowns going to see that the majority of the folks they appeal to are LOSERS?!?!

6. Listen to Dahl on the drive home,
I haven't listened to Gary since he split with Steve years ago.

I haven't listened to WLS since I was a kid and they played rock music.

7. I Used To Listen To WLS
Going back to the golden days of the 60's...then again in the late 90's when they had Roe & Garry, Mike Malloy & a then far more interesting Jay Marvin. I could put up with Rush & Dumb Wade & Aroma (my wife's names for them) knowing the station would tip the other way later in the day.

All that went to hell after 9/11...Malloy was gone, Marvin was paired with some woman...toned down even further than he once was (anyone remember the shotguns??) and the station took a sharp turn to the right. Over the last year, the only thing I'd pop on was Roe & Garry...and generally around 3:15 when Ron Magers was on...or some of Jim Cameron & Jim Johnson at 6. My daily listening went from all day to virtually none. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Without getting into names and politics, Garry messed up...and now finds himself in a very poor position. His wife/agent gambled that the station wanted Garry more than than the offer on the table and they walked. I wish him luck...he's a great person and lots of fun when paired up with the right counter-balance (alone Garry's dreadful).

Sadly, there's a major void of good talk radio in this area. Evenings are so bad I look forward to Milt Rosenberg...and listening to WGN is akin to heading for the old people's home. WBEZ, my usual is off into Jazzland at night, and I fish around to an occasional news program from Wisconsin Public Radio, Northern Illinois in DeKalb and the U of I station (when it comes in). Needless to say, I've rediscovered a lot of good music in the last year.

WLS's recent history has been a sad one of poor management and under-performing returns...and looks like that will continue for the forseeable future.

Cheers to my fellow Illinois DU'ers!

8. I first discovered talk radio on WLS
For the longest time I only listened to music on the radio. A few years back, I began listening to talk radio. I seem to remember a few liberal talk show hosts that I enjoyed on WLS. I also liked listening to Roe & Garry.

As the number of right-wing shows on WLS increased, I started listening to NPR. Occasionally I would turn on WLS and listen to the afternoon program. Then, for a few short glorious weeks, I tuned in to Air America. Now that was entertainment.

Sadly, Air America lost its home in Chicago. I still listen to NPR sometimes. I listen to Roe on occasion. I agree that he seems to enthusiastic about the Iraq war. I too enjoy listening to Milt Rosenberg in the evenings.

10. "Unca" Miltie is way too conservative for me. I miss Air America
so much. The streaming is OK but I can't stay on the computer all day.
