Peoria! Champaign! - 'Stolen Honor' Heads Up!!
Conservative TV Group to Air Anti-Kerry Film

NEW YORK — The conservative-leaning Sinclair Broadcast Group, whose television outlets reach nearly a quarter of the nation's homes with TV, is ordering its stations to preempt regular programming just days before the Nov. 2 election to air a film that attacks Sen. John F. Kerry's activism against the Vietnam War, network and station executives familiar with the plan said Friday.

Sinclair's programming plan, communicated to executives in recent days and coming in the thick of a close and intense presidential race, is highly unusual even in a political season that has been marked by media controversies.

Sinclair has told its stations — many of them in political swing states such as Ohio and Florida — to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," sources said. The film, funded by Pennsylvania veterans and produced by a veteran and former Washington Times reporter, features former POWs accusing Kerry — a decorated Navy veteran turned war protester — of worsening their ordeal by prolonging the war. Sinclair will preempt regular prime-time programming from the networks to show the film, which may be classified as news programming, according to TV executives familiar with the plan.

Executives at Sinclair did not return calls seeking comment, but the Kerry campaign accused the company of pressuring its stations to influence the political process.

1. Lord... Local 15 is actually the least wingnut of the two stations here..
Ignore me next time I try and tell you how Champaign Urbana isn't that bad...

Our media just sucks. We have a newspaper that is so far right it almost turns in circles, a CBS affiliate that is dreadful, and a Sinclair station. I'm not EVEN going to start in on the local radio stations.

Small wonder I get my news off the internet.

2. There are THREE markets that Sinclair has stations
Champaign, Peoria, and Mt. Vernon.

Heads up DUers in this area! After looking at the stations from their web sites, it looks like this will air on either a Thursday or Friday. The playoffs and World Series are already scheduled on the other days and I can't imagine they would even attempt to pre-empt those. Maybe it is a ruse to give publicity to movie...but I doubt it. So, with that in mind, if they are looking for the greatest potential audience, (putting on marketing consultant hat), I would air on Thursday because on Friday it's HS football...most likely with some Homecoming games scheduled attracting a bigger showing of fans than a regular game.

Just my thoughts.

3. We discussed free showings of F 9/11 when it shows here.
I was at Dem HQ today and we discussed the idea of setting up and publicizing free showings of Moore's movie on the night they schedule that movie. We were discussing a couple of locations at the U of IL campus and at least one off campus location.

We were also discussing advertising it as the movie they don't want you to see and playing up the local censorship issue.

Damn, but this just pisses me off! I stopped watching local broadcast a while back, but I have got to say, this makes me sorry I didn't quit sooner. The really big downer of it all is some of the Dems had already bought advertising with that station for this election. They need to re-think THAT decision.

4. Might also want to find out if
the new Kerry documentary can be shown. While F911 could be viewed as the mirror (anti-Bush), the Going Up River would be an excellent refutation. Sort of a part I that would discredit any of part II (the anti-Kerry) from the outset. Also, it's a positive to vote FOR Kerry rather than just against Bush.

We've got 2 Sinclair stations in Southern Illinois(Carbondale area specifically) coming out of Paducah, KY and Cape Girardeau, MO.

Here are the websites:

Are they planning on airing on all of their stations?
