i was under the impression that the 19th was the deadline for filing for the march primary. is this correct? did duckworth have hers? i googled, and found no mention.

1. According to the State Board of Elections,

she filed at 1:26 pm on the 19th. You can check it here:

Select "General Primary -- 3/21/2006", and then on the next page "Search by Office." On the page that follows, pick "REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS," and then "6TH CONGRESS." Submit.

Since her petitions were not circulated by her personally, she won't get any boost from voters that met her while she was trying to get on the ballot...

On a personal note, I understand that you and several others are less than thrilled (yes, I KNOW that was an understatement!) with Duckworth and everyone who put her on the ballot.

Cegalis has a very strong volunteer base and an organization in place. Additionally, she spent what--a few hundred thousand(?) on her last race? She has THAT added name recognition on top of the volunteer base. That is not a bad place to be at, IMO.

I'm not taking sides on this primary. In fact, if I'm being totally honest, I am supremely relieved NOT to be in the middle of it because I anticipate it will be pretty ugly before it is all over. I do hope that the local Dem party and everyone else will be able to unite behind whoever comes out of the primary. We will need that in the General if we want that seat.
