Idaho senate passes gay marriage amendment proposal

Edition Date: 02-15-2006

Five Idaho senators switched their votes from last year and the Senate endorsed a proposed amendment to the Idaho Constitution to ban gay marriage.

The proposal will be on the November ballot, where it will need a simple majority to pass.

After about three years of lobbying and two hours of debate, the 35-member Senate finally endorsed the proposal with the two-thirds majority needed to place the amendment on the ballot.

<snip>

Gay marriage already is against the law in Idaho. This proposal would change the constitution, which supporters say is needed in case a court ever rules against Idaho’s law.

1. You think the bigots in this state
are going to vote for the amendment? I'd guess yes.

What a bunch of bigoted, idiot fucktards. :mad:

2. Sadly, yes, I think it will pass with a 2/3 or greater majority
Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that our Idaho elected representatives haven't troubled themselves with insignificant issues such as education, the environment, or Kempthorne's pie-in-the-sky highway proposal.

3. We need to challenge this in Federal court.
As soon as possible.

4. Did any of those 5 Senators run for re-election?
I can't access that article, so I can't check for myself, but I think only 1 of them ran for re-election this year.

6. even if it passes it will not survive an ACLU lawsuit.
Especially if Obama wins and the Supreme Court is reconfigured.
