CT DU'rs Do you have a favorite place to go camping........
in the state.
I'm, looking to get back into camping again and wondered where you like to camp and why.

1. Devil's Hopyard Near East Haddam
I've been camping there several times; it's one of my favorite places on earth. Waterfalls, rocks for scrambling, fishing, bike trails - Devil's Hopyard's got it all. Check out the nearby Gillette Castle while you're in the neighborhood.

2. What kind of fishing.............
is there. Lake, pond or stream and is it possible to set up your tent near the water?
I'm a tent camper.

3. Trout
Edited on Thu Mar-03-05 10:57 AM by Sporadicus
The Eight Mile River runs through the park, and I did some fly fishing for trout - with decent results. Of course, that was 30 years ago...

Here's a link to the campground map:

http://www.dep.state.ct.us/stateparks/maps/devilshopyard.pdf

The tent campsites appear to be ~1,000 ft. from the river.

9. Been going to the Hopyard since childhood--still love it, good tent
camping but they've been closed for camping by the state for budgetary reasons for a few years now--still good for hiking. I love it.

10. I went camping there a few years ago. I liked it.
I had fun. I didnt make it to Gillette Castle though. I live near there too so it is convenient.

6. camping in CT
Camping in CT unfortunately is pretty weak. There aren't really any good lake camp sites that I know of. I camped at a place called salt rock that was decent. Nothing to rave about, but there was a nice river to go fishing in. http://dep.state.ct.us/stateparks/camping/ look here for some places.
