DENVER, June 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- FreedomWorks Co-Chairman and former U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Armey today told Colorado Gov. Bill Owens: "I accept."

Yesterday, Gov. Owens challenged Armey to a debate on Ref C. Today, FreedomWorks accepted by proposing the topic: "Is the Referendum C Tax Increase Good for Colorado?"

FreedomWorks staff will coordinate with Gov. Owen's staff to set the time and place. Armey is visiting Colorado next week to meet with local volunteers and political leaders to help plan opposition to Ref C, "The Pick Pocket Amendment," which would take more than $3 billion in tax refunds away from Colorado families.

On June 28, Armey will be in Denver at the request of local taxpayer activists and Colorado FreedomWorks members. Armey and Colorado FreedomWorks are supporting the grassroots campaign against Referendum C. On the 28th, Armey is meeting with a coalition of advocacy groups, legislators, and supporters to mobilize against the Ref C tax hike, and Armey is participating in a press conference at 1 p.m. Mountain Time at the Colorado State Capitol. At the "No on Ref C" Press Conference, to be held in State Capitol Room No. 326, Armey will join former Senate President John Andrews, Independence Institute President Jon Caldara, Club for Growth's Linda Stahnke, State Senator Shawn Mitchell, Jefferson County Treasurer Mark Paschall, Representative Bill Cadman, and other elected officials who are opposing Referendum C.

Over the past two years, FreedomWorks and Dick Armey successfully engaged in similar referendum campaigns in Alabama, Oregon, and Washington State and helped prevent billions of dollars in tax increases.

FreedomWorks Co-Chairman Armey commented:

"I accept Gov. Owen's challenge. On behalf of all of our Colorado FreedomWorks members and allies, I look forward to this debate."
