About Coors from The Progress Report received in email today
COLORADO - THE COORS LEGACY: Republicans yesterday nominated Pete Coors for the Senate in Colorado. Coors has an illustrious family history of funding far-right-wing organizations, and being connected to racist and anti-gay movements. As documented in his book, "The Coors Connection," author Russ Bellent points out that Pete allowed the Coors Foundation to continue funding the Council for National Policy, a right-wing group whose board member, Richard Shoff, was a leader of the Ku Klux Klan in Indiana. Bellent also points out the Coors Foundation "gave $2500 in 1981 to the ultra-rightist Patriotic American Youth, Inc., a group which also distributes explicitly racist literature." And Pete Coors's uncle, William Coors, told a group of African-American businessmen in Denver that blacks "lack the intellectual capacity to succeed." Ironically, the Coors campaign has likened Sen. John Kerry (D) to a convicted KKK murderer. Coors has promised that, if elected to the Senate, he would make lowering the drinking age a top priority – a move that would conveniently aid his beer business.

1. I'm glad you guys are discussing this!
I live in New Mexico, not Colorado, but I've been boycotting Coors since the 70s. We started off boycotting Coor's discrimination against Hispanics. They wouldn't hire Hispanics, but they sure targeted them in their advertising. I hate Coors and all that family has stood for over the years. I only pray that the good folks of Colorado vote for Salazar rather than Coors. :hippie:

3. I can remember going to Liberty Lunch...
in the late 80s/early 90s and seeing signs behind the bar saying "No Coors Anything."

I'm glad Mark and Jeanette were hip back then. I wasn't sure what Coors was doing, but figured if a bunch of liberals in Austin were refusing to sell them, they must have had a point.

Quick note: My brother drove a truck for them back in the 70s. The shame!!

7. My family drank Coors in the 60s
...and we are Hispanic! Double shame on us, but then we weren't as informed about Coors back in those days! :hippie:

4. Pete Coors is scum
But you'd never know that from watching his touchy feely commercials where he walks with his smiling family in beautiful mountain pastures. Colorado must wise up quickly. We don't need another filthy rich, anti-environment, bigoted, homophobic, racist drug dealer in Washington. Sorry beer drinkers, but alcohol is a drug.

I bet he's also for increased penalties for simple marijuana possession.

10. I don't know much about him
But the person who got me my Salazar yard sign told me that the family always had to yank him from managing businesses they gave him to oversee. He always did such a lousy job.

So, what are our talking points about him? Like most people, I know too many Repubs out here and could use the help. Meantime, I'll start Googling him.
