Schwarzenegger fundraiser in Sacramento cancelled?
Last night I was at a Democratic Club meeting in San Diego. A labor representative told us that yesterday (Wednesday), Schwarzenegger cancelled a fundraiser in Sacramento. CAn anyone in Sac'to verify this? I saw nothing in the news.

If true, it appears the Guv was afraid of getting another reception similar to what he received Tuesday night in San Francisco, when some 3,000 to 10,000 protesters temporarily barred him from getting into his big-bucks fundraiser, banging on the limo and chanting "Recall Arnold!"

Methinks this movie star is having a major image problem.

1. Have not heard that yet,
but I am SO proud of SF.

The media here in LA really laid it on about the protest. They interviewed several people that spoke out very well.

These are your everyday working class people and THEY ARE PISSED!

5. Our stupid San Diego media didn't cover the SF protests.
TV blacked it out totally; newspaper ran a small story inside that minimized the size and scope of the protest.

10. Seemingly No Media Did
I read the online play by play Tues. night and then watched to see if it would be reported on any of the newworks or cable. Not one word was mentioned.

2. I'm sorry to have to be the one to point this out, but seriously
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 11:03 AM by RubyDuby in GA
don't you California people realize this is what happens when you elect a movie star as your governor? Don't you guys remember what happened the last time you did this??? The whole country is still waiting for Trickle Down to trickle down.....

Moral of story: stop electing bad actors to portray the role of governor. :)

On edit: I know I've got a lot of nerve criticizing y'all from my lofty perches here in the Deep Red South, but I mean c'mon...Ar-nuld???

3. So true!
Even though I am here also in Red America, in fact right beside GA, I am from CA and all my family is still in CA. So since I have moved to SC my family has given me a hard time, do they really do that over there or do they really think like that in SC. Well after the election and Arnold became governor I called my mom up and said "And to think that I was ashamed of SC, CA should be equally shamed!" She didn't agree at that time but she is a teacher in CA and not very happy might I say.

6. Majority of us did NOT vote for him. He won on a plurality
in a recall election with something like 200 candidates on the ballot.

There are also serious questions over whether electronic voting was rigged in some areas to assure a $chwarzenegger "victory."

At any rate, this bad actor is having some serious image problems lately.

8. Who says we elected him?
And you're right. You're talking pretty bold there with Georgia's share of what looks like fraudulent elections.

We are both in the same both here on either coast.

Its called the plague of electronic voting and the results that come with it.

Many of us in California don't think Arnold was fairly elected, and I don't think we've had a legitimate election, especially since Evoting has been implemented.

I think the Republicans have taken over because they have figured out a sure fire way to cheat without a trail, and they are doing it, and we know it.

So, question is, what are we going to do about it?

13. Well, don't blame me, I didn't vote for him
 I have no scientific evidence to back me up, but I feel like the majority of northern Californians voted against the Gropenator, and the bulk of his votes came from the southern part of our state.

4. Gov. Cancels Events Before Activists Can Crash Them . LA Times

Gov. Cancels Events Before Activists Can Crash Them

As if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't have his hands full selling his budget package to the voters, he's also catching flak from taxpayer activists for his efforts to retire his $4-million campaign debt.

Schwarzenegger decided twice to postpone political fundraisers in Sacramento in the last two weeks after activists threatened to crash the events, with television cameras in tow. They want to call attention to what they see as the governor's reneging on his promise to refrain from fundraising during budget deliberations.

The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumers Rights had publicly announced plans to show up at both fundraising events with 21,200 jelly beans, representing the $21,200 limit on campaign donations. During his campaign, Schwarzenegger handed out jelly beans to voters. "We were going to see if that would buy our way in," said Jamie Court, the foundation's president.

Schwarzenegger postponed a fundraiser planned last week at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel with San Diego Chargers owner Alex Spano as host, but a spokeswoman said the governor had changed plans so he could focus on the state budget talks, not because of criticism.

9. You schedule a Dem meeting the same night as DFA Meetups?
kind of OT, but are you guys not communicating down there?

12. This is a very sore point. Many of us have urged the
La Mesa Democratic Club to change its meeting night so that DFA members can attend, but so far they've refused. The club has been around for many years, and a lot of its members seem resentful at an "upstart" group coming in and asking it to change its long-standing meeting night.

That said, we may finally make some headway as elections are being held soon and some of those running for office seem more amenable to the idea of changing the meeting dates.

15. Why don't you change YOUR meeting
I mean come on. And why are you still having DFA meetings anyway? Dean is the head of the DNC now. Join the local Dem club, take over if necessary, and make changes from within the party.

16. DFA meetings are set nationally and sometimes include
conference calls. Our local chapter has 1,700 members and is much more activist than the local Democratic club. It's arguable that we are the MOST active progressive group in town right now. If forced to choose, most members would choose DFA.

That said, DFA activists have been taking turns missing the DFA meeting to attend the Dem club meeting in order to coordinate activities wherever possible.

FYI, Dean's brother is now in charge of DFA, and is leading the charge for plenty of progressive actions. Have you heard the radio ads DFA just started running on Social Security?

This is not a group that's going to vanish quietly into the night, thank goodness!
