1. Darrell Issa
He's ambitious and apparently has money to burn.

2. would he give up a safe house seat though?
I can't see any of the Repukes giving up safe seats

they might have to pull Jones back out to run again

3. Maybe
He could always run again in this district. I volunteered on Mike Byron's campaign this past election (ran against Issa).

Just remember the image of him crying when he pulled out of the Governor's race. Issa wants to be President one day. Seriously. I think he would view the Senate race as a chance to move closer to his goal.

I can't think of any other Republicans who would challenge her. I'm not happy with her right now.

Know of any Dems who might run against her?

10. I think that's when the gloves come off...

... and we look carefully in his past and prove that he's a car thief and an arsonist. Those "events" still haven't been looked into adequately yet. I'll perhaps reconsider putting out a new bumper sticker on cafepress.com that says "Issa, don't steal my car", though I did have my car stolen last year not too long after I had that idea (but before I actually made such a sticker). Probably some freeper that saw a web post of mine and connected the dots!

6. wonder if he'd serve as sacrificial lamb to DiFi
he has his supporters among the right wingers of the Repukes

he'd make a good candidate but he knows he would get creamed

7. You got the lamb bit right.
During that gubernatorial coup, McClintock (if I got that right) seemed to be the only person of substance in the crowd of would-be's.

Not that I like a lot of the substance, but it was sad commentary on our times to see his effort overshadowed by Macho Arnold, Crybaby Richboy Lawbreaker Issa, and (don't get me started) Cruz Bustinoutofhisshirtbuttons.

8. he is a principled conservative
and I respect him for that

I don't agree with anything he stands for but at least he's not one these whores like Ahnuld and Issa

but in a state-wide election, he'd be toast

12. McClintock was just re-elected for the last time ...
He's terming out. Word has it that he's jockeying to run for Lt.Gov with Arnold in '06. They hate each other, but McClintock will give Arnold the boost he needs with the hardcore right wingers. Arnold would give McClintock the "charisma" he so desperately lacks. I'm of two minds about this...McClintock is actually an honest guy, which is what has kept him from going anywhere significant in the party. He refused to sell pipe dreams about the budget issues. I'll give him credit for standing up to Arnold. The Repubs threatened him and vowed to bury him if he didn't drop out. But I can't stand his views on abortion, etc. The sooner he gets out of my district, the sooner we have an open seat for which to contend. And if he gets into a position to torment the Gropenator, all the better.

9. She might run against Ahnuld...
... if the Dems succeed in talking her out of running for the Senate and running for governor instead in 2006. That might be a good way to get rid of Arnold as governor. Unless we were to get someone like Bill Clinton to run against Ahnuld, he might be tough to beat. I'd rather her get "challenged" to do something about the California budget crisis than do all of the lame stuff she's been doing in the Senate. It would be a good time to see new blood in as a Democrat to side up with Boxer for a couple of years before she runs for and becomes President.

Another question would be, if Feinstein were to switch to running for Governor, who would you want running for her Senate seat in 2006?
