My letter to the Cali DNC critters Re: Dean

I did not start it well, and the grammar is as bad as ever. Anyway, I hope it helps. These were snail-mailed. Twenty-one in all.

Campaign rhetoric is one thing, but the actions that follow are what people really remember. Should the “big tent” of the Democratic Party be moved to the right? Is that what we need, more accommodation? What would be the rallying cry that could energize new voters to support such a political party?

Passionately moderate!

Confidently accommodating!

An exiting new pale shadow of our opponent!

I do not feel the Democratic Party can grow its base of support by continuing down the road of Republican Lite.

I do feel that there is a huge reservoir of untapped support on the left, looking for representation with the numbers to win and the will to lead.

In order to win now and in the future, I feel the new DNC chair must be able to energize ambivalent and disaffected voters, to excite and involve new voters and to inspire future voters. To mobilize supporters at the grassroots level and to stimulate donations from the public which will free the Party from having to solicit from corporations.

Howard Dean has proven he has the knowledge, experience and appeal to do these things. His ability to effectively communicate with citizens of all persuasions is unmatched by any other candidate for the chair. Gov. Dean, I feel, can do what is desperately needed right now: help win congresspeople for the Democratic Party in the 2006 elections.

And so, respectfully, I ask that you support Howard Dean for DNC chair.
