Shelley agrees to testify before committee investigating his use of funds

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Embattled Secretary of State Kevin Shelley agreed Thursday to testify Feb. 3 before the legislative committee investigating his use of federal election funds, his aides said.

Shelley made the commitment Thursday morning, meeting a 10 a.m. deadline to confirm his appearance before the Joint Legislative Audit Committee's hearing next month. The committee's chair, Assemblywoman Nicole Parra, D-Hanford, said she would seek a subpoena to compel his testimony if he did not agree to come.

Shelley made the commitment in a letter and telephone call to Parra, said his spokeswoman, Caren Daniels-Meade.

"He looks forward to participating," she said.

1. I hope Shelly turns this into a photo op to expose Diebold.
He decertified their touchscreens and kicked them out of CA. Now the REPS are crying he was slow to adopt updated voting machines under HAVA (Help America Vote Act). In other words, he wouldn't let the REPS steal an election in California, so now it's payback time.

He's also accused of hiring partisan consultants. Ummm....if the GOP is so concerned about partisan politics in a Secretary of State's office, shouldn't they start by going after Kenneth Blackwell?

I sent Shelly an e-mail last week and urged him to turn the GOP attack into a media opportunity to denounce voting fraud and Blackwellian tactics. We'll see if that's what happens.
