Stop Clearchannel from replacing Air America with CNN in San Diego!
Clearchannel to replace Air America Radio News with CNN News in San Diego!

I've just received this alarming bulletin (published in the San Diego Union-Tribune) indicating that CNN will replace Air America Radio News in San Diego starting January 1st! Let's mount a campaign right now to call and e-mail KLSD and Clear Channel and urge them to keep our only liberal news source in San Diego!

Excerpt from Union-Tribune:

Here's an update on Clear Channel Communications' selection of Fox News Radio as provider of national news for most of its news and talk radio stations across the country: Fox will not be the national news source for KLSD, said station program director Cliff Albert. He said Air America Radio News will be KLSD's national news source. After the first of the year, CNN will take Air America Radio News' place on KLSD, he added. Fox is the national source for KOGO, which is the local news gatherer for most other Clear Channel San Diego outlets

3. I don't know. I tried calling KLSD to find out, but the office is closed.
I'll let you know as soon as I get that info. Either way, it's bad news, especially since Clear Channel owns other Air America stations across the country. I'd urge anyone who lives in an area where AA is owned by CC to call and find out if this same change is planned elsewhere.

9. It's the news, not the whole station. But....
I got a testy reply from Clearchannel's programming director, Cliff Albert. He doesn't think CNN is biased to the right and sees nothing wrong with airing a news service that won't cover voting fraud on a so-called liberal radio station.

Please e-mail [email protected] and voice your disgust. I'd much rather have truthful Air America news than CNN, a Time-Warner subsidiary, wouldn't you?

11. Cliff Albert is a known republican...
Belonging to the Roger Hedgcock/Ron Roberts set of the party politics in San Diego. He claims to be "fair and moderate" when it comes to the news, but he can't seem to grasp the idea that since the fall of the Fairness Act and media conglomerations, Journalism is no longer a primary ingredient of "news". I can see why he wouldn't think that a network that has interns out of the CIA working for it would be right wing at all. They're only there for fact checking, right? /sarcasm.

Sending off the e-mail now.

Haele

8. Yes. Higher ratings for AA than Hedgecock's show.

16. That would be nice, but...
That would be nice to be beyond the grasp of the FCC but I wouldn't think it would be a very good way to bring AA into the mainstream markets and topple Rush, Sean, and the rest of the GOP Talking Heads. It does hurt to see the "owned by Clear Channel" at the bottom of the different AA stations. What about Infinity? Are they heavily Republican? Even Entercom?

I know here in Boston the news is about split evenly between CNN and Air America for the news feeds. I hope it stays like that (or just go with AAR permanently). Has anyone else noticed an abundance of "patriotic" type PSA's on Clear Channel owned stations though? I just really started tuning in on the radio so I don't know if it's something that's been going on for a while or what.

12. I just visited AAR's San Diego website (1360 KLSD)
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 08:27 PM by ailsagirl
and it doesn't say anything about folding-- but maybe it wouldn't??

http://www.1360klsd.com/main.html

Nor is there anything on AAR's website (i.e., KLSD is still listed)

14. It seems the only way to prevent this..
is to buy the station.

The Repugs own everything and therefore punish us by taking away our radio stations.

15. AAR isn't going anywhere in San Diego. They are staying put.
They used to get their news feed from Faux. Now they are going to get the news feed from CNN. That's all. Same junk for news, different call letters is the only change.

17. Kick and letter to cliffy
I enjoy your programing a lot. In fact this is the first time in years that I listen to the radio. Yet if you replace Air America News with CNN on the radio, I am afraid I will have to go back to streaming Air America, and will miss on all the local advertisers, some of whom I have bought from and made sure they knew I heard their advert on Air America.

I hope you do not make that mistake.

After all if I wanted to listen to CNN, or FOX I would have the TV on, which I think is in the living room. I really do not want to have to pack my radio too, or replace it with an XM Satellite radio.

Sincerely,

XXXXXX

18. Well got qutie the interesting exchange with Cliff
Two things... they are replacing CNN at the top of the hour because of the "perceived slant". I can only guess they have gotten many an email from the fanatics....

Anyhow I told him, I will NOT listen to CNN at the top of the hour, my radio is going off at that time, and going to streaming. I will not listen to CNN, in fact I did threaten to get an XM or just stream it... why? I will not listen to any of the MSM news reporting

Did also tell him that I find it ironic I have to go get my news from the wires (I can already see it, how can they get to the wires damn it?), or from foreign media, as CNN and the rest are slanted to the right.

I just loved the we do not want any with any perceived spin, hence why they did not try to force Fox on us... but my gawd, Cliff believes CNN is considered Liberal or left leaning? He is in for a surprise folks, he sounded like he was.

Anyhow I was nice to wish him a merry and happy year, in fact here is the last letter... I think you can chuckle over it.

____________

In a message dated 1/2/2005 10:44:53 PM Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes:
sorry...but we want a full service news network for the NEWS, not one with any perceived slant or spin. Hope you still listen to us.

Slant or spin, that is exactly what you get from FOX and less obvious from CNN... but it is there quite heavily. MSNBC and the rest are also quite heavy into spin, and quite frankly I do not need any spin in my news reporting from ANYBODY.

I will listen to the stream for the news... or plain out read the AP, UPI and other wire sources, as I have been doing over the last few years. Oh and I will continue to read the BBC World Service on the web and go back to streaming the World Service for my real news, after all CNN, yes CNN, forgot to tell us that many a primaries were cancelled and I have to go to foreign news sources to get news that are important, since NONE of the so called liberal media is free or lacks any spin any longer. It is slanted to the right, and we both bloody know it.... but you want CNN, fine... I have a computer I can stream the top of the hour news from AAR in New York, and I can also stream the BBC world service. I would listen on the short wave, but reception sucks over here.

As I said, if I wanted to listen to any right wing slanted news service I could always turn on the TV that I think is in my living room. It has not gone on in literally months, and I quite frankly no longer find anything worth watching on it. (Good for DVDs though)

The death of the Fairness Doctrine and the process of a take over of the media and the destruction of fair reporting are now complete, and quite frankly I do not need any news from the Stenography Corps, and yes you will probably read this from many of us who would like a return to a free and independent media in the United States.

We may yet see that one day... after the Fairness Doctrine goes back on the books, until then... I used to read the NYT when growing up since there was no free press where I grew up. These days I read the wire and listen to the BBC world service, I find it ironic.... what is even more ironic is I also read the press from the country of origin, as they are now free. They do publish stories about events in the US, that our so called free press dares not touch... oh this is so familiar that it is sad.

I thank you for readying this, and wish you a happy new year. I will continue to listen to the main program, but turn it off for the news... as I do not consider CNN non slanted or non spin heavy. They are... and anybody who studies the media, and I have... knows this.

Sincerely,

XXXXXX
