We should have kept Gray Davis (Duh)..... LA Times
Edited on Wed Dec-29-10 01:23 PM by Ernesto
"One thing should now be evident as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger packs up his office: It was a mistake to recall Gray Davis.

Davis didn't deserve it. He had just been reelected the year before. He would have been out of office in three years anyway.

Schwarzenegger wasn't an improvement except for, briefly, providing entertainment. He didn't make the state's money mess any better. In fact, it has gotten worse."

1. I thought at the time that the whole recall was engineered and full of fraud.
First of all, the excuses for recall were not only nonsensical to me, but also downright feeble. Then a friend told me her experiences of being asked to sign liberal-leaning petitions like "more pay for teachers" etc. by hippie looking petition workers -- and when she read the petitions (which most people sign without reading) she saw they were actually "recall Davis" petitions. That's when I was convinced the whole recall was nothing but an engineered power move. We just elected Jerry Brown -- a man I respect, admire and trust -- but if we hadn't, I would advocate bringing Davis back.

6. I heard the same. There was massive fraud in getting
those petitions signed, but we only have anecdotal evidence of it. I really wish there would be investigations as to what really happened. We need to get the paid petition gatherers into court to testify as to what they exactly did and we need to indict Darryl Issa who was behind the petition drive and question him under oath. The petition gatherers where paid, not volunteers. Who funded Issa? There are so many unanswered questions.

2. I always thought the whole recall and the way they SET DAVIS UP
for a fall with the energy debacle was just an dirty, underhanded RW scheme. They can't win elections fair and square so they have to lie, cheat, and steal to get into office. They played their games in such a way that people thought Davis deserved to go (when he DIDN'T) and then installed their chosen boy. And they even pulled an underhanded stunt with Darryl Issa, got him to help with the recall and probably told him he'd be the chosen one, and then pulled the rug out from under HIM and put Schwarzedollar in.

Typical machiavellian crap from the right.

5. I always liked Gray Davis.
Arnold's just not a thinker, and he's got a bad case of Austrian throwback.

I have this to say on Arnold's behalf: Not. Meg. Whitman.
