Why are we Californians in the Union again?

2. Why?

Beats the hell out of me. We boast the fifth-largest economy in the world. We still excel in techonology, agriculture, and aerospace. Our ethnic makeup is the most diverse in the country, and nobody gives a damn if you're a gay, black, Vietnamese Jew whose first language is Spanish, as long as you separate your recyclables, put your extra canned goods in the Second Harvest bins, and don't run red lights.

We've made plenty of mistakes (Reagan, Nixon, Deukmejian, Wilson, Prop 198, and Schwarzenegger among them), yet today, the Dems pretty much creamed almost every knuckledragger challenger out there. Our Senators are two liberal women. We're funding stem-cell research, we're forcing the rich to cough cash for mental-health programs...

Damn... Why ARE we still in the Union?
