Why won't Mary(Bono) take a stand?
Last week I voiced my opposition to the misguided new Arizona immigration law that sets a dangerous precedent by requiring that law enforcement officials treat people differently based on the color of their skin or the language they speak. Everyone recognizes that our immigration system is broken but this bill not only doesn't make the border more secure, it enshrines racial profiling in the law.

I also called on Congresswoman Bono Mack to join me in opposing the bill and to commit to addressing the critical issue of our broken immigration system in Washington, D.C. Since then, many Republican politicians have announced their opposition to the Arizona law, including Rep. Connie Mack, and Bono Mack's preferred candidate for Governor of California, Meg Whitman.

But the Congresswoman has refused to take a stand against the law or to take any action to solve the problems with our immigration system in Washington. Her silence on this matter is unconscionable. Though, it's not surprising, since she has failed to lead on this important issue at any point during the 12 years she's been in Congress.

This is just one more example of why I'm running for Congress. The people of Riverside County deserve principled leadership from their Congressperson. As your Representative, I will work hard every day to find solutions to the problems that affect our district. I'll never shy away from taking on important issues to address the needs of California's working families.

However, to do that, I need your help now to win this campaign. This Monday, May 17th is our next crucial fund-raising deadline and we've set a goal to raise $10,000 online between now and midnight Monday to make our finance report as strong as possible.

Can you contribute $100, $50, $25 or even $10 right now to help us reach our online fund-raising goal?

While Mary Bono Mack is bankrolled by the Republican party and deep-pocketed corporate lobbyists, I'm relying on donations from grassroots supporters like you to stay competitive with her well-funded campaign. That's why i need you to donate any amount you can before the Monday deadline.

With your help we can win this race and restore the dedicated, hard working representation you need on your side in Washington D.C. I can't do it without you!

Please forward this email to your friends and neighbors and invite them to get involved in our campaign today.

Thank you so much for your generous support.

Sincerely,

Steve Pougnet

P.S. - Please make a donation now to help us reach our goal before midnight Monday!
