LA Times has been changing, and I am looking for alternatives. Suggestion
please.

I called SF Chronicle, they do not do home delivery. WAPO does not either. Only NY Times would.

For 25 years I had subscribed to the LA Times, for many years they had a sub headline "Without Fear or Favor" that quietly disappeared and with it their motto.

I have no interest in Goldberg and Gelernter's opinions which they now aparently give great credence to over Scheer.

My 2 big dogs are unhappy, that they have no newspaper to go fetch in the morning, albeit sometimes it gets out of hand and we will have to reconstitute a corner here or there.

Any suggestion on home delivery of a decent paper?

1. Shit, read the Chronicle online, If your daily goes republican, don't keep
giving them your money, take a stand. There are so many excellent news sources online, you can get all the info you need...And in California almost every community has alternative papers ...San Francisco has the Bay Guardian, Eureka/Arcata has North Coast Journal, Chico has the News & Review, etc. etc. because all the dailies are usually filled with bias AP and right-wing news!!!

2. Can't think of any.
I just read the funnies anyways, I get my news online, where I control the agenda. I do like the Cron, and they hired Sheer, so I'd throw them a buck if they delivered here.

4. I'm going with the on-line crowd
I've posted many times now about my disillusionment over LA Times turn to the Reich. Now I do SFGate on-line every day, and many Liberal blogs, and sites. I love LA Weekly, altho' it isn't a daily.

5. The San Diego Union Tribune
Just kidding.

If the LAT gets anywhere as near to being a RW butt-rag like the SDUT is, I wouldn't even wrap my fish in it.

I get most of my real news off the internet now. One paper I do actually enjoy reading though, is "The Daily Oregonian" from Portland.

6. As I noted on another thread. Perhaps we need a new company...

that would print and distribute web-based periodicals to different locales. If a business could do that and keep it's costs down and competitive with local newspapers, that would be a way to revolutionize competitiveness in different markets. Then local publishers would know that they can't count on monopoly power to force people to accept their papers. I for one would like to see Voice of San Diego published in that fashion here in San Diego to give the Tribune and NC Times some competition. Maybe we could have Voice of San Diego, the local weekly publications for ads, movie listings, local events, etc. and other online L.A. web sites team up to provide daily content for such a publication.

Not sure who would be the best sort of company to do this, but perhaps one could buy up older plants of newspapers out of business with printing operations in some instances and update them to be able to do more intelligent "printing" on demand of different mixes of online website content. Might also be a good revenue stream for some of these online sites too. I know I'd pay twice what I once paid for the Union Tribune for a decent progressive set of printed newspapers.

MIght sound a bit difficult to do, but if there's demand, and I suspect in L.A. there would be, I think it's a problem that could be solved.

7. Put my 2 cents worth the same day to the editor and quit subsrciption
Dogs are still confused, in the morning they do not get to race out to see who gets the paper first. So, I give them a treat anyway. They look at me still, "Mom, that is not the point."

Independence and credibility dies with mergers and acquisitions.

8. LA Weekly
http://www.laweekly.com/

Just canceled my LA Times subscription.

Now I take my dog go for a walk and pick up the LA Weekly from the local convenience store.

You can even subscribed to it. It's owned by the same people who own the Village voice. A very progressive outlook on the news.

Still, we need a progressive daily with toons. Love to see someone challenge the LA Times.

9. I do all my news reading on line now.
You can get the funnies, crossword puzzles and anything else you like on line. It actually has worked out better because I can personalize my bookmarks for what I want.
