using the supreme court as justificiation?
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that union members cannot be forced to finance political activity

Really? Can someone more up on SC decisions point me to when this happened?

We support this more narrowly tailored initiative primarily as a means of lessening the power of public employee unions in Sacramento, but also as a way of reinforcing the right of union members to insist that their hard-earned income not be diverted to political causes they don't endorse.

Those political causes, like collective bargaining, the weekend, better benefits. all that crap that union members just hate supporting. :eyes: wtf

3. Exactly!
They are okay with corporations having the Repugs in their back pocket then? It's not okay for the working folks to donate money to give their causes power? WTF!! Ya' know, I just don't get where they are coming from. I sent them another letter. I guess this explains why I'm reading the SF Chronicle more and more.

7. Union employees can ALREADY opt out. They are in no sense "forced to
Union employees can ALREADY opt out. The law requires that they be able to do so.
They are in no sense "forced to finance political activity."

Whoever wrote that piece should be taken to task.

6. Blame it on
the bundle deals LA Times is giving away to the conservative immigrant communities through their foreign-language newspapers.

In the Korean community (California's own Cuban community), both major newspapers now have deals with LA Times. And I know enough Korean to know that neither of these papers ever were our friends to begin with.

More immigrants = more conservative readership = more conservative LA Times.

8. It's not the liberal paper I read for almost forty years.
I noticed a turn to the right about five years ago. I wouldn't trust their endorsements anymore.

9. Chicago Tribune Bought L.A. Times Some Years Ago
As part of the newspapers owned by the few, what's to expect. All easy to spurt the right wing echo chamber. It's not pro-union, anymore, that's for sure.
