Sitting Out CA Special Election Could Backfire
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-me-cap10oct10,1,2741018.column?coll=la-headlines-politics

Democrats have this problem: They've been badmouthing Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's special election for months, denigrating it as a waste of taxpayers' money and a governor's time. Now, somehow, they've got to convince their voters to dignify the election by participating.

Voters like my sister-in-law Kathy in Santa Clarita.

"This whole thing is a joke," she says. "We've got a lot more pressing problems that could be using up rather than a special election. I'm tempted not to vote because it's so ridiculous."

1. I've been seeing lots of political ads
on the TV lately - most especially ads that urge voters to vote NO on Prop 75 - Public Employee Union Dues. Restrictions on Political Contributions. Employee Consent Requirement. I also got an recorded message last night, from a female doctor urging me to vote no on Prop 73 - Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before Termination of Minor's Pregnancy.

Hopefully voters will realize that although this special election is a waste of money, their not voting isn't going to make it any less of a waste. The money is already spent -- so get out there and vote, or quickly request an absentee ballot and vote!

3. I got my sample ballot, but not
the voter pamphlet that usually comes around the same time, giving the full wording for each item to be voted on.

5. Can't believe anyone would sit this one out
I can't wait to vote all of this shit down. Hasn't everyone learned a lesson. If everyone voted for Davis' re-election, it wouldn't have been the cake-walk it was to recall him with puppet Arnold.

6. *sigh* 25% will show up.Then 10 years from now we'll be hearing
commercials saying: Prop 2394872034782340 would overturn measures YOU the voters put in place to protect teenagers from being coerced into having an abortion.

Is anyone sponsoring a proposition to modify the constitutional amendment process to make it more difficult? Sign me up for six hours a week on that puppy.

7. It's THAT important!
We need all Dems voting!
NO 73, NO 74, NO 75, NO 76, NO 77, NO 78

YES 79, YES 80

Don't let the Repukes grab the power away from a bunch of bored, yawning, sleepy Californians. I know it sucks having another special election, but we gotta keep this state safely BLUE.
