LOS ANGELES PEACE MARCH 9/24 CHECK IN
Hi everybody!

I've looked at the map and it looks like Olvera Street is the closest place to meet after the march. It is across the 101 and right across the street from Union Station on Alameda.

The only problem is not knowing what time. The march looks to be about a mile or so followed by speakers, music and such. No telling how long that will last.

Personally, I'd like to stay to hear the speakers.
My suggestion is to have each others cell phone numbers and try to navigate ourselves to a common area where it ends. I'll have my digital camera so we can take pictures of the group.
How does that sound? Please let me know what you think.

1. I'm 99% sure I'll be there
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 11:46 AM by Beaverhausen
we were talking on another thread about meeting afterwards at the Biltmore, mainly because it is closer to the metro station and lots of us are taking the metro. But I will do whatever the group decides.

I'll PM you my cell number.

:hi:

I will be there with Beaverboytoy and Beaverboytoy's godson.

8. That sounds cool.
I'm going to PM you my cell number as well.

Where can we park? I'm not close to a Metro line station and we have to drive downtown ....... any ideas?

9. If we knew in advance where we were going afterward,

I could telll you where to park, since I work downtown. Since no decision has been made, might I suggest parking at the public (surface) lot on the corner of Hill Street and Fifth? (Directly north of Pershing Square, katty-corner from the Biltmore block) This way, if we decide on the Biltmore, it's an easy walk to your car and if we decide on Olivera street (or something else) all you have to do is hop on the subway (red line) at Union Station (only $1.25 to ride), go two stops to Pershing Square and its an easy 1 block to your car. There's also an underground parking lot below Pershing Square accessed on the Hill Street side (and Hill Street is one-way travelling north between Fifth and Sixth streets, so don't try to access it by travelling South on Hill - you will be forced out westward on Fifth Street , toward the Harbor Freeway onramp if you do) but I suspect parking there is more expensive than at the surface lot described above.

Now, since I am probably the only person in Los Angeles who still lives without a cell phone, and since we won't know where to meet until after the march, my plan is to arrive for the march at about 11:30 and search for your (ronnykmarshall's) sign (who so kindly posted a picture of it on the previous thread on this subject), as I am arriving alone and was hoping to march with the DU contingent.

14. Glad you are coming
My husband and I are going to park at the rally site so we are near the car when it is finished. We will take a cab back to the Biltmore, hopefully around 10-10:30 for breakfast. I have no idea how traffic will be coming from OC.
Hopefully, we can get a group together so we can march together.

2. I'll be there >

I am going, and I have emailed DU'er 'El Diablo'. He has been at every major LA protest that I have attended, with a big 'float' like above. This makes it easy for DU'ers to converge and meet up.

7. El Diablo is out of town-
So we won't be able to use his float as a meeting point. He'll be with us in spirit.

13. Ok - last post from me before the march - here is what my signs will say
I hope...

one side:

Dear America

Thanks for the Money. Sorry about your kids. Love, Halliburton

(stolen from a photo of a rally from another DUer- thanks whoever you are)

and the other side will be this quote from the great editorial last weekend:

"....Inept, unprepared, uninformed, lackadaisical, unaware, and untruthful. The Bush presidency has been in over its head ever since the first plane hit the north tower."

15. My phone SUCKS!!!
I kept getting dropped calls and had three messages from yous kids. Then it kept saying I had voice mail and it was bogus!

Anyway. Sounds like everyone had a great time. We were wondering around at the end of the march and I kept looking for Lisa, checking voice mail ...... looking for DU'ers. Then my feets told me ..... we done!!

Awsome march, eh? I don't get to go to downtown much. It's very cool. I was starving and all those mom and pop mex places looked yummy.

I think we need to do a hook up soon. It's so hard to try and find everyone. FYI - My sign was a huge hit. I had so many people take pics of it. I felt just like Loretta Young!

17. I talked to Carla when I was at home
When I got downtown my phone was like using two dixie cups with a string.

I got Beverhausen's message as to where you guys were .... when I got HOME! I've never had my phone act up like that.

We gotta do this again.
