Look what Bob did.

Friends,

As we celebrated Earth Day yesterday, I invited members of the media to my house for a special demonstration.

As some of you may know, last year we installed a 6-kilowatt solar power system that produces about 11,000 kilowatt hours per year. It reduces our electric bill by producing clean energy that is fed back into the grid.

Climbing onto my roof, reporters and photographers were able to see first hand how our 30 photovoltaic solar panels can have a positive impact on our monthly budget, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and help fight climate change.

As a family, we made a personal commitment to renewable energy – now it is time for America and Arizona to make a similar, public commitment.

Arizona can become the Middle East of solar energy if we make energy independence a top priority. And, solar energy is also a huge investment in Arizona's economic future.

The proposed Solana solar energy plant in Gila Bend, if successful, could lead to the creation of a huge new industry that will create thousands of new jobs and solar energy investments here in Arizona.

But, Solana will not be built unless Washington extends crucial solar tax credits that are set to expire at the end of this year.

My opponent, John Shadegg, opposed the solar tax credits that are required to make Solana a reality. At the same time, Shadegg supports tax subsidies for the oil industry. It comes as no surprise to many that the oil and energy industries have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to his campaign.

In my campaign and in Congress, I will fight tirelessly to jump start Arizona's economy by investing in innovative and renewable solar energy.

Investing in Arizona's solar energy infrastructure will create new green-collar jobs, new investment flowing into our state, and a chance for Arizona to lead our nation in creating clean renewable energy. There is enough sunshine here in Arizona to power the whole nation – we can do it and we should.

You can be part of this movement for change, and we need your help to be successful. Please sign-up today to volunteer and host a house party.
