So finally we have made it to 2006, better late than never I suppose.

1. I've never owned a cellphone and I still don't want one
But how cool is the service? How much does it cost? How far out into the county does it reach? Is it a viable option as a broadband service for the desktop?

Just a few queries there. ;)

2. It's really just the new high speed data network. It's pretty awesome.
It pretty much extends from Birmingham through Northport. If you're not wanting a cell phone we do offer laptop connect cards that run off the 3G network like the Bill Curtis commercials. They are $60 a month, cards are free after $100 MIR. But AT&T is putting in their U-Verse fibre optic network which would take the place of Comcast or Charter, it's a better deal the Internet is way faster and you get more chanels for the same amount of money. I'll be leaving Tuscaloosa at the end of this month so if you're interested in any of these let me know and I'll tell you what store I work at and we can see what we can do.

3. thanks for the reply!
Money is tight these days, and I've been looking for an affordable way to get fast internet. When I visit friends I'm so very envious with their connections. They tell me that I have U-Verse available, and I was about to sign up. It was actually going to be cheaper than my current tv, phone, dialup array. Until I found out that voice service isn't yet available in this area. That really messed up the equation.

Thanks for the kind offer. :hi:

4. UVerse vs Comcast
We live in the Alpine Hills area off Skyland Bvld and can tell you horror stories about Comcast internet service....down after every rain storm down for days, down because it was a sunny day etc. Changed to Uverse the day it became available in this area, no VIOP available, but still use out Vonage setup as with Comcast. A few bugs when first installed, but they told us there might be...outages lasted 3 or 4 minutes as opposed to days, with comcast. More TV channels and much faster reliable internet...plus, we can watch MSNBC, which of course Comcast refuses to carry in this area as they claim there is no demand. Then again there was enough demand to carry a German channel for the 35 German Nationals who work for Benz.

Bottom line, three times faster internet speed, great very fast service, more TV channels, plus HBO for the same monthly price as Comcast.

5. thanks for the report
It hadn't really occured to me to use Vonage for voice. That's certainly something to think about. Thanks for posting. :hi:
