Bama DUers. Lets have a meetup on the 4th
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 01:29 AM by liberaltrucker
Come on Bama DUers. Lets have a meetup and try to figure out how we can turn our State, if not blue, at least purple. If not you, who? If not now, when? I'm taking a week's vacation July 1-8. On July 5 and 6 I have medical appointments, but other days are free. Feel free to email [email protected]. BTW, Freepers will be shot on sight:evilgrin:

1. welcome to Du liberaltrucker
I live in Ohio now but I'd sure love to move back to Alabama. I'll be visiting my mom that week-- so if you have a meet-up anywhere close to Eclectic I'd love to come say hi. :)

24. I live in NC now and would also love to move back to Bama
I think that Alabama will go blue in 10 years. I hope that it does.

When I die, I want my ashes spread from the top of Monte Santo. Love to be sprinkled over a blue state!!

30. I live on Monte Sano
When I die I want half my ashes spread on the Mountain and half at Dauphin Island.

No sticking around with feeding tubes please if I vegetate before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

2. I'm game (not the kind you shoot, please!)
You beat me to the punch on this - I've been thinking of proposing an Alabama DU gathering. Let me be the first to second your motion - though I'd rather do something in July AND before then, as well.

I will help keep this kicked until an appropriate number of other Alabama DU'ers reply!

A belated welcome (if I didn't do this before - sometimes I forget!) to DU, liberaltrucker!

8. Can't think of ANYTHING I'd rather do on July 4th
Than get together with my fellow Alabama DU'ers. Bet we'll have the best food of any state DU gathering around!

I'm the type that gets called on to organize the class reunion or church picnic, so I'm happy to help crunch the details on this.

With one caveat. You have to quit saying "Bama DU'ers". I know you're in Tuscaloosa and all, just remember we are crossing those "other" lines that divide our state when talking about DU!

Seriously, I am a HUGE Auburn fan, but am just joking about the reference to 'Bama. I'm not one of those "choose or die" folks that seem to dominate our state.

Ok, seriously, seriously. Just don't say "Bama" during the month of November. We'll be big buddies if that rule stands.

;)

4. Change the title of the thread, if you can
I think threads move slowly enough in this state forum that this thread will get read by most regulars at some point regardless of title.

But it might get more immediate attention if given a title related to planning a get-together. I bet I'm not the only Alabama DU'er who has thought about what a good idea this would be!

9. Hey! I love dumb rednecks...
...who have real smarts when it comes to what matters in life. And something tells me you are one of those charmed humans!

To edit a title or part of a post, just go to the thread and click on "edit" on the bottom of your post, scroll down to the edit box and change accordingly. Then press the "update message" button when you are done.

I'm sure your thread will be viewed whether the title stays the same or not. We are a small bunch in the Alabama forum, but a good sense of comradarie has been growing here during the past several months.

20. What about Lake Martin?
It's a little more central, isn't it? I think we have a lot of Alabama DUers from south and central Alabama (though I know there are plenty from north Alabama as well!).

Or should we look for something around Birmingham or Montgomery for easy road access?

Of course, I'd love it if our friends in Baldwin or Mobile counties would host us on the coast (though that clearly blows the "central location" arguement out of the water!). But I'd happily host northern Alabama DUers at the halfway point here in Auburn if it helped further the beach proposal!

I'm open, and willing to help plan!

18. I agree with a meeting but might it be more effective if it was part
of one of the following Affiliated Organizations of the Alabama Democratic Party?

Carolyn Gibson – 866-542-2339
Alabama Young Democrats

21. Depends on the goal of the gathering
I suppose. I was thinking more along the lines of a fun-in-the-sun kind of shindig as opposed to a full blown Party gathering. But I'll be there either way!

22. I would like to see this come together as, primarily, a DU gathering...
Other AL Democrats would be welcomed, as far as I'm concerned... but I would like to have a DU meetup more than an Alabama Young Democrats rally or the like.

I would love to attend, but I would need it to be a little bit more of a central location. I live right on the Mobile Bay in Fairhope, AL.

I think this is a great idea!

31. About the gulf coast:
Rooms are REALLY tight in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Post IVAN. About 50% of what was available last summer. Although I'm just up the road in Foley, I'd go for something more centrally located like Montgomery or Tuscaloosa. Either one would be a great nostalgia trip for me. I was born in Mungumry (1941) and went to the U.of A.

The 4th is on a Monday. How about a Sat.-Sun. gathering for those who do family stuff on the 4th?

Maybe we should run a double meet-up with an on-line connection? I could make it to any North Alabama meet, but would have problems if it were too far afield. Alabama is a pretty big state. But I am willing to give any plan a try. It is a great idea, L.T.! :hi:
