10,000 fill O'Dome to hear filmmaker, Michael Moore
Oct 5, 2004

Michael Moore, who's found celebrity ? and enemies ? casting his political views on the big screen, brought a pro-vote and anti-Bush message Monday to a packed house at the O'Connell Center.

<snip>

More than 10,000 students and members of the community packed the O'Dome, stomping and chanting until the creator of "Fahrenheit 9/11" emerged about 30 minutes later than scheduled.

"It's not right that the majority of Americans side with us and yet we don't have the power," said scruffy-bearded Moore, clad in his uniform of a T-shirt and blue-jeans. "The only way we are going to do it is to get off our asses."

His mission during his self-dubbed "Slacker Uprising Tour" is to inspire millions of traditional nonvoters to go to the polls on Nov. 2.

<snip>

Moore singled out a group of college Republicans filling the front section of a set of bleachers.

They could be identified by their T-shirts which side by side spelled out "M-O-O-R-E L-I-E-S." Another student's shirt read "Love Ya Dubya."

I was there and it was great. Out of over 10,000 people, there were maybe 20 Bush supporters. Can't wait for Cheney to show up tomorrow. We'll be sure to give him a real Gainesville welcome.

3. That's an incredible turnout. Stunning. Really!
It says something about how well motivated our base is.

People are hungering for his message.

I mean have 10K people ever turned up to see a documentary film-maker/non-fiction writer before before?

I kinda' doubt it.

I even doubt the FReeper demigod Rush could draw that big a crowd in a similar sized market.

7. Moore to Nader supporters: "Would you shut the F--k up!"
But when the Nader supporters did not stop screaming, Moore responded, “Would you shut the F--k up!”

Later, a group of Bush supporters in the crowd began cheering, “Four more years,” Moore replied that it sounded like they were cheering for four more wars.

He didn't take any bullshit! :)

8. Did he offer any prizes to people to persuade them to vote?
If so, the republicans may press for his prosecution.

Moore Accused of Offering Gifts for Votes

Republicans Say Michael Moore Illegally Offered Underwear to Students in Exchange for Kerry Votes

The Associated Press

LANSING, Mich. Oct. 5, 2004 — Republicans say filmmaker Michael Moore should be prosecuted for offering underwear, potato chips and Ramen noodles to college students in exchange for their promise to vote for John Kerry.

The Michigan Republican Party has asked four county prosecutors to file charges against Moore, charging that his get-out-the-vote stunt amounts to bribery.

. . .

Moore, a Michigan native, is touring the country and imploring "slackers" who usually don't vote to head to the polls this year, saying they could make the difference in the presidential race. He has made stops at three Michigan universities as part of a 60-city pre-election tour.

During each program, habitual nonvoters are invited on stage to pledge to vote for Kerry. First-time student voters are offered gag prizes such as clean underwear. The GOP said Moore also offered students a clean dorm room, a year's supply of Tostitos and a package of Ramen noodles. The GOP said it asked the prosecutors to charge Moore with violating Michigan's election law, which prohibits a person from contracting with another for something of value in exchange for agreeing to vote.

10. He sure did
he had Raman noodles, clean underwear and even gave out a couple of DVD's. If the Repugs want to try to take him to court for that, lot's of luck fools. It would only give Moore, more free publicity.

13. The prosecutor refused to comment for the story. Probably embarassed.
I do think this story tells a lot about republicans.
