John Kerry>RFK
I'm not one of those ideologically pure types, but the man did work for Joe McCarthy.

That's not easily forgivable.

1. Why Don't We Go To Arlington National Cemetary, Dig Him Up
And Flagellate Him...

Give me a fucking break...

And by the way all the scholarship on the McCarthy era suggests RFK was a moderating influence....

4. RFK was a young lawyer not long out of Law School...
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 12:47 AM by T Town Jake
...when he went to work for the McCarthy committee. He quit after six months. Whatever he did in those six months in service of McCarthyism was more - much more - than mitigated by his lifetime of progressive service that followed.
You've got to be fuckin' kidding.

On edit: replaced "give me a fucking break" with "You've got to be fuckin' kidding" after I read through the thread and saw another poster had already used that exact phrase. Great minds think alike. :-)

10. He Forgot To Add That JFK Abstained On The Vote To Censure McCarthy
They were flesh and blood humans not cardboard saints...

Also, it's late but I believe McCarthy dated one of the Kennedy sisters...

12. You're absolutely right, on all counts...
...JFK did abstain from the vote to censure McCarthy (he was recovering from back surgery at the time, but probably would've abstained in any event), and "Tailgunner Joe" did, at one point, date one of the Kennedy sisters. But you're most right on this cogent point: "They were flesh and blood humans not cardboard saints." Precisely! Any fondness they had for McCarthy the person during the early 1950's matters little in the history they made with their progressive politics in the years that followed.
Regardless of any of that, they were both great leaders - and this nation misses their kind of leadership sorely today. Now more than ever.

7. It's Like It Was Pulled Out Of The Original Poster's Ass...
Why not

John Kerry > George McGoverm

John Kerry > Ted Kennedy

John Kerry > Hubert Humphrey

John Kerry > the clown who lives across the street from me...

Thank God I am usually asleep at this time and miss these shenanigans...

13. Your post wasn't the recepient of my jab...
..that was reserved for the genius who posted this thread.

I don't give a shit about language (see?). Words are as powerful as we let them be. Besides, I had an ethics professor who cussed up a storm, and made certain people upset. I laughed at them!

So go ahead and spew. I do, and feel better for it. :)

17. I lived though that campaign
If John Kerry (whom i sent a hundred bucks to last October) were half the man that Bob Kennedy was that would be good enough for me. I've kept the faith! So should you!
