Concerns about 2nd debate moderator (Texas Ranger Kin?)
Info from another board:

"I'm sure that you know this already, but Bob Schieffer, the moderator at the 2nd debate, is the brother of Tom Schieffer who was president of the Texas Rangers under Bush's ownership. Bob is the older brother and has always acted in the role of Tom's father. I knew them both many years ago. I think that it is only fair that Bob disclose his relationship to the President at the outset of the next debate."

Can anyone here confirm this disturbing information?

1. BULL, Bob Schieffer will be fair
He has been with CBS, and has always held up journalist standards

Look at all the talking head shows. Face the Nation has always tried to be fair

2. That seems like a bit of a stretch
I'm not sure it's going to get much, if any, traction out there.

3. I wouldn't have too much concern about Bob Schieffer
being partisan. He has been one of the few to actually put the screws to the Bushies if only a little bit. It was on Face the Nation that Rummy's "imminent threat" linkage was exposed...not that it was shown much after that but it was shown.

6. Yep, he's the brother.
It was a thank you appointment for his help in getting Shrub $$$$$$$ out of the Ranger deal. ($13 million give or take a few mil.)

Unless it's been changed. Schieffer is the moderator for the 3rd debate.

8. I guess I'm not thinking of the "townhall" thing as a debate..............
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 09:24 AM by annabanana

9. Ah, nothing to worry about . . .
Right? Bob's his own man. So what if his brother is a Bush appointee? And a former business partner of the incumbent?

What do you suppose the story might look like if the moderator for one of the debates had a close relative who enjoyed a long-standing personal and business relationship with John Kerry? Naw, y'all are right: Nothing to see here. No reason to suspect Schieffer's integrity at a crunch-time moment in the campaign. Why would he worry about his brother's employment prospects? As a "professional" journalist, I'm sure that won't color his questions, tone, demeanor or any decisions he makes. Yup, a total automaton, that Bob Schieffer.
