OHIO Voters Give KERRY Another Look and Like What They See
From the NYT:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/04/politics/campaign/04kerry.html

An Invigorated Kerry Courts Ohio, and Some Swing Voters Are Taking a Harder Look
By DAVID M. HALBFINGER

... Off to the side of a high school gym, Katy Curtis, 39, was wiping her eyes.

"He's not Clinton, but he's close," Ms. Curtis said. "I didn't see that till today." She had watched intently on Sunday afternoon as Senator John Kerry listened to a newly divorced steelworker, locked out of his factory job for 11 months, haltingly describe how his daughter had told him not to worry - that her mother and grandmother had "taken care of" her first homecoming dress.

"I went to pieces," said Ms. Curtis, a swing voter who said that she supported President Bush after the Republican convention but switched to Mr. Kerry after seeing him up close.

If Ms. Curtis and a few other previously undecided Ohioans who came to Mr. Kerry's town-hall meeting here and some new polls are any indication, swing voters are giving Mr. Kerry a second look after his strong showing in the first presidential debate. And they are liking what they see.

***

Read the whole thing - it's very encouraging. Kerry's really hitting his stride. Now, as long as he balances Iraq and domestic issues together, he should do fantastic.

Ladies and gentleman, the White House is within grasp.

1. Being a Strong Closer, doesn't mean
always tearing your opponent a "new one", it can also mean making folks know that you "feel their pain".

16. The Bush philosophy must be discredited.
...and discredited so utterly that one may sooner suggest adopting Nazism as a national policy than return to it. It shouldn't be incredibly hard, but we need to do it by example, not by smearing the preceeding President, as the Bushies did to Clinton.

This is not to say that criminal wrongdoing shouldn't be punished pursuant to the law. To the extent that Bush doesn't pardon his staff, the next AG should go after anyone indictable. Again, the charges must be real, not something they made up for CNN.

If Bush pardons all or most of his staff, the next AG should go after Bush himself - and throw the book at him, but only after making an case against those he pardoned that would stand up to grand jury scrutiny.

2. I loved Clinton, But Kerry will be better than Clinton.
The GOP knows that when he gets in, he's here for two terms. They are scared. Kerry does not have the "weaknesses" that Kerry had. They will not be able to badger Kerry like they did Clinton.

I'm excited for us all.

3. Secretary
The article mentions a secretary who voted for Bush in 2000. Why in the hell would any secretary vote for Bush? Ohio may finally be waking up!

6. "I know he (Kerry) comes from a privileged background,
but he's more in touch."

It amazes and infuriates me that there are people who still believe Bush is just a good-ole down-home cowboy.

14. There's more truth to that than anyone knows
People think Kerry's Beacon Hill manner makes him "out of touch", whil Bush's Texas twang and cowboy mentality mean he is a "regular guy".
Bush has perfected the tough, stupid guy affect, and indeed it is done to disguise the fact that he is as rich as they come. It is as effective as it is dishonest. Bush would never personally volunteer for active combat duty as many have had to do under him the past 3 years.
Now the hypocrisy of Bush's "sympathy for the common man" act is being exposed.
Hopefully the veneer will be stripped for enough of the previously duped to see through it.

13. Well, don'cha know
Bush is someone you'd want to sit and have a beer with!
Unfortunately, choosing a president is kind of like getting married -- you don't get just him, you get the whole family.
Having a beer with Bush means a night out with Cheney, and Ashcroft, and Wolfowitz and Rice as well. That's a disturbing picture.

8. Yes, the Dems need to hit on this point again and again
This fantasy of GWB being one of the "common folk" needs to be blown to bits once and for all. Connecticut-born, Ivy-League educated, cheerleadin' heir to a family fortune built by dealing with Nazis!

15. Ohio DU'ers, it's up to us to get JK's message to everyone we can
If kerry wins Ohio, he wins the election. Millions of Ohioans have been hurt and betrayed by Bush, some know it, some don't. I was calling voters on behalf of the Ohio Dem Party, and I talked to a 20 year old male, UNEMPLOYED, (draftable) Says he's voting for BUSH!!!!

These are the people we need to be talking to. DU you agree?
