Freepers think Kerry cheated in the debate by using notecards

I guess, to a freeper, if you're not a confused idiot you're automatically suspect.

The earphone piece that George Bush was wearing...Part of the reasons for his
stammering was that he was listening to someone speaking to him in the earpiece
and he was having to try to repeat what was being said to him and he wasnt picking it
up fast enough

I will have to take your word on Free Republic as I never visit their site for fear of
catching a social disease...like trichinosis..

6. umm Bush used those cards too
He didnt start out though, Kerry started using them, I think to take notes on his counter, Bush started to I think because he saw it was working for Kerry or maybe he decided to draw people.

26. Bush started writing...
... 'cause he thought Kerry looked good doing it. Of course, Bush was just jotting down things he was going to do to Karl Rove, later, for not getting him out of the debates.

8. Okay, I watched the video, and I admit some concern
My first instinct was that it was clearly a pen that Kerry removed from his jacket. After reading the freak republic comments, I noted that the rules specifically state that they must submit even their writing impliments prior to the debate.

In a nutshell, it doesn't much matter what Kerry took from his jacket... he violated the rules of the debate, and now those chickenshits have their reason to cancel the other two debates: violation of rules. Does anyone else have a video that shows if he DID remove something from his jacket? I know this is small potatoes, but that's all the GOP needs to have in order to cancel the other debates. One small rule violation....

15. Did he put something back IN?
If there's no video of Kerry putting something back IN his pocket we can be done with this now, because nobody would leave prohibited items on the stand.

17. You're right!
I just checked the memorandum of agreement (the pertinent passage is subparagraph 5[d]). The candidates had to submit all their writing implements to the Commission, who would then place them on the podium for the candidate. Kerry using one out of his pocket was a no-no.

Fortunately Bush directly addressed Kerry more than once, which is a more flagrant violation of the rules.

I for one have a habit of pocketing pens because I'm always losing them :)

18. Let them cancel the debates because he brought a PEN to it!
Let them say that is why they won't do it. I think the vast majority of the public will recognize they are cancelling the debates because Bush did so poorly.

12. Bush was the one with the notes, but they didn't help
He had to read the notes and that just confused him. He had rather large phrases scrawled on the paper.

The "on-message" stuff.

22. Not only is he geographically illiterate...
if you hear him talk at any length about Iraq, he pronounces this country's name at least three ways.

I clarify, he is functionally illiterate. No wonder his favorite book is the Hungry Caterpillar!

Because it is the book that he reads the most? So he remembers how it goes and remembers it easier?

33. No, the Freepers are right--Kerry did cheat!
Using special photo-enhancing, I've cleaned up the images somewhat. You can see below that Kerry did in fact use a prop to inspire fear in the President:

Seriously, take a look at the video where Kerry reaches into his pocket. Now watch the President. What's he pulling out of his sleeve?

39. Has Bush committed a much more serious transgression?
That is, assuming Kerry broke the rules at all?

Section 5 part e of the MOU reads, "Neither film footage nor video footage nor any audio excerpts from the debates may be used publicly by either candidate's campaign through any means, including but not limited to, radio, television, internet, or videotapes, whether broadcast or distributed in any other manner."

The DNC and RNC both have internet pieces on their respective websites featuring video or audio, or both, from the debates. Neither were paid for by the campaigns proper, nor endorsed by a candidate. Kerry does not have a new video up on his site, but Bush does, generally dealing with the "Global Test" misconception. I can't really tell if it features debate footage or quotes, but it certainly seems to violate, at least, the spirit of the above quoted rule.

Anyone else notice this or have thoughts?

Mark
