Ad aimed at suppressing the African-American vote
I don't know if this has already been posted and discussed; if so, I apologize. I heard this ad yesterday for the first time on a local jazz radio station, and I'm furious. Here's a partial transcript:

"Today one-third of African American pregnancies end in abortion Black babies are terminated at rates triple of white babies.

Under title X Schools can counsel scared kids to abort their babies without even consulting their parents.

Each year the abortion mill diminish the human capacity of our community by another 400,000 souls.

The democratic party support these abortion laws that are decimating our people.
But the individual right to life is protected in the republican platform.

Democrats say they want our votes why don't they want our children.

Learn the racial truth about America's abortion laws.

Don't buy the democratic lie.
Killing unborn babies is no way to help those in poverty.”

I found the transcript on this site:

http://blackcommentator.com/105/105_cover.html

Here's what it says about the group that paid for this ad:

"A shadowy Republican-Right outfit called America’s Pac Campaign took to the Black-oriented airwaves this month in contested mid-Western states. could find no evidence of America’s Pac Campaign ever having previously existed. According to Dayton, Ohio radio station WRNB-FM sales records, the group’s president and treasurer is Richard Nadler, of Overland Park, Kansas, but Nadler delivers his message through a Black voice on the radio..."

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS and I'm furious.

I've already sent this to Media Matters...

1. Organize a boycott of ALL the station's sponsors.
And notify them.

2. I just heard back from the station...

...he was very sympathetic (though must stay neutral), but did say that the FCC requires them to play the ad. I don't know how this falls in line with CNN's chickenshit decision not to play the Log Cabin Republican ad, but maybe the rules differ between the two media...

Also, I called Stephanie Tubbs-Jones (she's my representative, on the road campaigning for Kerry, I'm sure, I just saw a report yesterday about her contribution), but they already knew about the ad and couldn't do anything about it from a congressional standpoint.

Thanks!

ETA, forgot to say: another reason the ad shocked me is because this radio station is traditionally strongly liberal, so they must've felt pressured to play the ad. And mine wasn't the first call about it.

3. CNN is not subject to the FCC
As they are a cable network, not a broadcast station. It kind of the same thing when CBS is fined for indecency (Janet Jackson's boob) but HBO can show topless strippers on The Soapranos.

Pushing through the Welfare reform act. If abortions are up in the black community it's because they can't afford they're children which is exactly why the pro-lifers did it. I started a thread on this today.
