Dear Mr. Walton,
I’ve had enough – I really have. I’ve written to your organization and your on-air personalities (under no circumstances can any of them be referred to with the prefix “news” in front of their names) several times, asking if perhaps, just perhaps, you might make the feeblest of attempts to try and play it straight. I got my answer today.
John Kerry – you’ve heard the name, yes? – spoke today before the National Guard. CNN, finding no way out, one would assume, covered the event. Or should I say pretended to. How’s this for a timeline:
1) Start off the speech late – we wouldn’t want to miss John Warner now, would we. What party is he with again? Oh, never mind.
2) Monitor the speech closely, and when Kerry begins to put the heat on Mr. Bush –cue the “transmission problems.” What happened –were you all out of balloons? Oh, and isn’t the "transmission problems” ruse getting just a wee bit old? Seems to me it shows up on a fairly regular basis, although strangely enough it never seems to affect anyone from the Bush administration. Funny how that is.
3) Go to a commercial, and then bring Kerry back until he once again begins to talk against Mr. Bush. Whoops, time for Judy to blather! After all, why hear what Kerry has to say from someone real close to him – like Kerry, perhaps. No, much better to let your very own Judge Judy spin it.
4) Finally, split screen Kerry, making a major speech, with Bush, making a routine one. Oh, and talk about the close race in Minnesota! (Well, there really isn’t one, but has that ever stopped you before?)
I do commend you for one thing though – you don’t even try and hide the bias anyone. What’s next – morphing Kerry into Attila The Hun while Wolf stands by and solemnly intones, “The Kerry camp is unavailable for comment”?
The disgust I have for what CNN has become has reached critical mass, but that obviously means nothing to anyone there. Stay on bended knees if you must – myself and millions of others will give thanks for the Internet and ferret the truth out by ourselves. It is clear we’ll get no help from you.
Congratulations on helping to bring a once stellar news organization so far down into the gutter that it now drowns in its own waste.
