to form a disastrous piece of legislation after the bill has lobbied again. If you think this is bad wait until you see the final product. :puke:

we can all wait for that magical day when single payer comes up for a vote. Good luck with that.

7. People who call themselves realists do a great disservice to reality...
The reality of a realist is always doom and gloom. Your reality sucks.

6. The bill has a lot of good things in it.
Hopefully, the Stupak amendment will be stripped out of the bill in conference.

Anyone who would prefer to have the bill fail than pass, doesn't know much about history. Social Security and Medicare legislation wasn't perfect either. They were both strengthened over time.

The final healthcare bill will too.

But, in the end, I really don't give a damn anymore what any of you "failure is the only option" DU members think.

This is an historic night and I will relish in it.

38. Do you also hope the corporate mandates are stripped out in conference?
Because those are every bit as sickening as the Stupid-ak amendment. And will do even more damage in the long run.

16. I have hope that the bill represents a pragmatic approach to what is possible. Change takes time.
Unfortunately there are power elites that will go to the grave before they give up that power. Getting money out of politics is another important step, but it's just going to take some time.

24. Exactly
It is not perfect. IMO, anyone who claims it is perfect and anyone who claims there is nothing good about the bill has not read it. It is a start and is better than nothing. I believe it can be made better further down the line. It is a start and a damn good one considering what we had to work with.

By the time it gets through the large intestine the Senate, we will have an even worse bill.

And we are supposed to rejoice about this anti-abortion rights legislation?

So much fervent opposition to a weak bill.

So much fervent cheering for a weak bill.

All that, and women's reproductive health and freedoms are thrown into the trash, to boot.

As a young black man in America I am lucky to be alive. I was extremely proud when he got elected, but he is President now and when I disagree with him I will let it be known. I want the brotha to succeed, but I think he is doing somethings the wrong way.

32. As a middle age Black Woman, I think you've got it twisted.....
Tonight, we as a country made history...
and we also made history when Sotamayor was sworn in,
and we will make more history under President Obama....

It ain't about what you want that will actually get something achieved,
nor about how loud you whine on the Internet....
it's about what we can actually get done.

Obama has achieved more doing it his way,
than you could ever even dream of.

38 Million Americans, many of them minority, will now be able to go see a doctor....
this will help prevent unwanted pregnancies, improve prenatal health,
and therefore, reduce infant mortality. Many of our brothers and sisters will be
able to get tested for HIV and then get some treatment; same for high blood pressure,
diabetes, and the other fatal ailments that hurt our community more than many others....

so if he's doing it wrong,
he should keep right on doing it exactly that way.

34. Debating is the name of the game on a political forum.....
but like I said, you being against this health bill is rather odd.....
as most Black folks tend to be realists, considering so many things
they have had to do without......so when the "not so perfect" comes knocking at the door,
you normally would let him in.....certainly better than no knock ever.

Just think if Black Folks would have held out for the perfect civil rights bill from the get go....
where would we be?
