Interesting how the RW/Media meme "he's doing too much" can so easily turn into "he's done nothing"

So, I thought a little list might be helpful because even though it has seemed like he is generally working his ass off, now he is supposedly a lazy ass, happy to do little.

A list of accomplishments:

On the environment:

Included funding for "green" jobs in the stimulus bill

Initiated first steps to develop a legally-binding treaty to reduce mercury emissions worldwide

Dedicated more than $60 billion for clean energy

Instituted "cash for clunkers," getting more fuel efficient cars on the street

Acknowledges reality of climate change and his desire to work on an international policy like Kyoto

Emphasized the value of science (not political opinion) within the EPA

Allocated $2 billion in stimulus cash for advanced batteries systems (for automobiles)

Declared (via EPA) carbon dioxide a threat to health, the first step towards regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act

Signed executive order requiring Guantanamo to be closed within 1 year and allocated funds/personnel for that purpose

Included provision in stimulus legislation that, for the first time, supported the ideas of Net Neutrality-like non-discrimination and openness for the Internet

The administration demonstrated a new commitment to fighting for change on the UN Human Rights Council by announcing it will run for a seat next year, reversing the Bush administration boycott

Revoked Bush administration executive order on regulatory review that enabled political appointees at the White House's OMB to override agencies' rulemaking, undermining everything from worker safety to environmental protection

Signed 3 executive orders, including one reversing a Bush order to limit union representation on federal contracts

Moved to prevent federal contractors from being reimbursed for union-busting propaganda campaigns during collective bargaining

Signed executive order overturning Bush administration's ban on project labor agreements (PLAs) on federally funded construction (PLAs set wages and establish work rules and methods of settling grievances on large multi-contractor construction projects)

Signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, guaranteeing the right to sue for wage discrimination based on gender, race, disability, etc.

Extended unemployment benefits for struggling Americans

Obama's Department of Transportation has approved 2,500 highway projects

The list above was from a Daily Kos Diary dated September 5th so it is now a month out of date.

Of course, the health care push has been going on since Summer but it is now treated like little work, easily done which, of course, explains why nobody has been able to do it since Teddy Roosevelt but Obama could just snap his fingers and make it happen but he must really not want to get it done. Just like closing GITMO. Easily done, right? Because all the cases were left in such a great manner, there are easy spots to find to send them and the legal way to deal with them had no flaws. Along with Congress literally turning the entire Country into a NIMBY - not in my back yard.


Now we all know the truth - he just wanted to become President because they make such good PIE in the White House.

2. The chatter that he doesn't care or isn't trying to help the unemployed just pisses me off after

they fought to include in the Stimulus Act more $$$ for unemployment, extending it to more people and covering COBRA payments for people laid off. The money for the states also helped the people who needed it most because that is who pays out Medicaid and food stamps and most of the help for people in desperate need.

The three Republicans we had to get to pass the damn thing were the ones who actually cut quite a bit off what we got for the states. Those cuts were a big part of the problem in September where over 50,000 of the job cuts where in local and state governments - some cuts that wouldn't have been necessary if Collins hadn't required it be eliminated. There would have also been a hell of a lot more state and local government lay offs if the feds hadn't helped out the states as much as they did.

I was out at Red Rocks Amphitheater over the Summer. They have a big plaque about how the CCC built it. Reading about how they did it, I don't know if something like that would work anymore. The workers lived in camps together They earned about $35 a month, $25 of which they had to send home to their parents. Their food and clothing was covered living in the camp. Would that work now? I don't know.
