Harry Reid: Public option trigger ‘pretty doggone good idea’

Harry Reid: Public option trigger ‘pretty doggone good idea’
By Lisa Mascaro
Las Vegas Sun
September 25, 2009

WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called the proposed public option trigger a “pretty doggone good idea” during a telephone-town hall on health care reform with Nevadans.

Reid supports the idea from Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, which would establish standards and goals the insurance companies must hit within a specified timeframe. If companies miss the deadline, the public option would kick in.

“My first choice is a public option, because I think it will create competition and make the insurance companies more honest,” Reid said Thursday. “My No. 2 choice is the trigger that Snowe talked about.”

Reid said that he preferred the trigger, “which is a pretty doggone good idea,” to the proposed co-operative model some moderate Democrats support.

7. He is so going to lose in 2010. He is trying to appease the people who will never vote for him.
In so doing he is driving away his voters.

8. f*ck OLYMPIA GODDAMNED SNOWE! We don't NEED her! And a "trigger" means NOTHING
Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 12:22 PM by Triana
Without a public option or WITH a "trigger" - there is NO health care reform (now known as "health insurance reform").

WHAT the Hell is the matter with this effing Ninny? Can we PUHLEEEZE GET RID OF HIM?

Harry Reid is LESS than useless. He's DAMAGING this country and HE needs to be duct taped, NOT the cat! Someone introduce the cat duct-taper psychopath to him, STAT!

Argghghh! :banghead:

9. Are we still using the word, "doggone?"
Apparently so...

I thought that word fell into disuse along with "dadgummit," "cotton-picking," and "Hell's bells."

13. This is such a desperate hit piece: “My first choice is a public option..."
OK, now what: “My No. 2 choice is the trigger that Snowe talked about...Reid said that he preferred the trigger, 'which is a pretty doggone good idea,' to the proposed co-operative model some moderate Democrats support."

He didn't say he preferred a trigger:

“My first choice is a public option, because I think it will create competition and make the insurance companies more honest,” Reid said Thursday.

Anyway, the trigger option and co-ops are both dead.

15. Buh bye Harry
Can't imagine who he thinks is going to work for his re-election. Maybe some insurance executives will sign on to man the phones and walk the precincts.

21. Well, as far as I'm concerned,
the 'trigger option' is one that does need to be considered.

So, I'll consider it. Ok. I'll give them a fifteen year retroactive trigger.

If the insurance companies couldn't figure it out from 1994 to 2009, another couple years isn't going to help. So, they can have a 'trigger option' - retroactively.

So, their option has run out and it is NOW time to pull the trigger.
