Is he really trying to imitate Hitler's public speaking gestures?

Maybe.

1. Botton lime: Beck is mentally ill
Edited on Sun Sep-27-09 10:34 PM by depakid
It's not just some schtick- the guy's disturbed and shouldn't be on TV.

And wouldn't be in a responsible nation.

5. Maybe, maybe not
In Beck's case, he not only presents with delusions, flight of ideas, pressured speech and emotional lability- but has a significant and substantial family history of the same.

Quite literally, the man's not well- and in a responsible nation, would be receiving treatment, rather than exhorting followers.

16. No, not really. At most his father was something of a domestic tyrant
and his mother a depressive but that's about it.

3. Sick freak.
Somebody should have him institutionalized because he is obviously a danger to others if not to himself.

8. Except he is very rich, has a mass audience and is developing a following.

I'll take the guy writing on napkins. He's not a real problem. Beck is.

11. 7,000 PAY to hear him speak in Seattle, on 350 radio stations, regular program on cable TV.

He very well might surpass Limbaugh in his following and unlike Limbaugh may want to build a mass movement in the streets.

Time will tell.

But, you shouldn't take him and other right-wing demagogues so lightly.

They are out there and they are growing during this economic crisis which could easily turn into a political crisis.

Study American history and you'll understand.

10. That's what they always say about right-wing demagogues. But, they can become very dangerous.

They appeal to people's emotions and prejudices.

They have no interest in civil and logical debate.

15. That's right
If you cannot win a rational debate, foster irrational debate. They win those.

14. He reinforces his followers' paranoid, misinformed ideas.
He tells them what they want to hear and validates their fears and prejudices because he's on the teevee.

He's not to be laughed off or ignored while he has such an influential media platform. He and his fans and followers need to be watched.

17. "He's not to be laughed off or ignored "
Well, he and his ilk surely are laughed off- ridiculed and generally ignored in just about every other western nation in the 21st century.

Only in America are the mentally ill held up, enabled and legitimized by those in positions of political power- including the opposition... errr... I mean the supposed ruling party.

Maybe- since that's the case- the problem lies not with Beck- he's a dime a dozen- but with something else that's happened over the past 20 years.

21. Ignore and laugh off potential right-wing mass movements at your own peril

Wasn't that "nut" Hitler really goofy? Just ignore him and ridicule him, he'll go away so said many Germans.

22. How about if the Right AND Left stop calling people Hitler and Nazis?
Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 11:50 AM by Beacool
Thank God there was only one Hitler and no one wants to see the resurgence of the Nazis. Both epithets are hurled far too often at too many people. Beck is just a right wing nut, he's no Hitler..........unless he starts another WW by invading a defenseless nation and killing 6M people.
