Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 10:37 AM by gore-is-my-president
and I didn't get a ticket ( I was going 62 mph in a 45 mph zone). It was from a state trooper - and they usually always give you tickets. Also - I live in a very Republican area. I thought OMG - I'm getting a ticket for sure.

This guy must have been a Kerry fan...

1. Maybe he's one of those few cops that believe
that their time is better spent going after real criminals and not people that have a place to be.

4. Criminals in Naples, Florida?
There's never anything going on here....

It's possible that he had wanted to find DUI'ers since it was 9:30 pm on a Saturday night.

9. hehe, didnt realize you were in such an area
most traffic stops like that are about looking for alcohol or other drugs.

sigh...one day this will be a free country again.

5. If he believed that, why make the stop?
Sorry...to me, speeding is speeding, a law we all break now and then (me especially on rural roads), with the full understanding that if I get busted, I had it coming. And yeah, I do think cops probably have better things to do, but some of them are assigned "road patrol". Of course they shouldn't be making their decision to ticket or not based on a bumper sticker--but nice to think a like-minded officer took that into consideration.

BUSH MUST GO!!

7. The have quotas to make too - as far as speeding tickets go....
That's how they fund a lot of the police depts here in Florida.

16. Yes, there are quotas here, too.
As I said in another reply, the thing that bugs me is it's up to the officer on patrol whether or not to make the stop or give the ticket, since the speeds posted on open (not residential) roads are more or less "suggestions" rather than actual limits. But I have a radar detector in my car, just to give me an edge, 'cause ya just never know how many tickets the cop has left to issue based on his/her quota.

Only thing I really know:

BUSH MUST GO!!

15. Yeah, you're right--sorry!
In my state, it's completely up to the police officer as to whether an infractor should be stopped and/or ticketed. Drives me nuts, and in fact, I use a radar detector to give me an edge. The powers that be won't raise the speed limit on rural roads as states around us have done, and I really take issue with that. I do think that speeding is speeding, but though I've known people who do so, I've never had the nerve to say "why don't you go out and catch real criminals?" when nailed for speeding (happened once ten years ago--not too bad, I guess). So I kinda over-reacted to your post. My bad!

;)

He can't stand bush, and neither can his sergeant. Both voted for him last time, and both will vote for Kerry this time.

14. Driving while a DUer...
I think you got a good cop. Maybe he's upset that * and the pug congress just made his job a tad more difficult by not extending the assault weapons ban.

17. Bush has screwed the cops and first responders
they are sick of him.

Clinton had tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of new cops on the streets. Bush cut the budgets to hell for his rich friends.

An attorney general whom I know has a brother who is a strong pro=Kerry cop.
