People are hurting.. more the more why we need health care reform to cover people.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Five states posted jobless rates above 12% in August, according to federal data released Friday.

California, Nevada and Rhode Island each hit record-high rates, the Labor Department said.

Michigan led the nation in unemployment, with a rate of 15.2%, while Nevada was next at 13.2% and Rhode Island was third at 12.8%. California and Oregon were tied for the fourth spot, each with unemployment at 12.2%.

2. What kind of health care reform?
Most of the proposals, shy of the Dingell/Sanders/Conyers bills, wouldn't be helping out unemployed people until 2013 (with a subsidized exchange/PO). Going chicken little for the purpose of pushing HCR, and attributing to hurting people, seems a bit out of touch. People need to not be scared into passing *any* reform, for the sake of reform alone.

4. A PO that doesn't start until 2013 won't help the unemployed today
Nice strawman BTW. It doesn't dignify a response.

6. This should be out there more
The pre-existing condition reform should really be focused on more to sell healthcare reform in general. Yesterday at the College Park rally (yes, I was lucky enough to go!), the young woman who introduced the president talked about how she as a college student is covered by her parents' insurance. She was diagnosed with a form of thyroid cancer, I believe, and it was covered. But she talked about what happens when she is off their insurance and suddenly, she can't get any.

I think a lot of people forget this part of health insurance reform in the fog of "DEATH PANELS!" and "ILLEGALS GETTING COVERED!" and "WHAT ABOUT ABORTION???"

Seems to me the pre-existing condition problem could really reach out and touch a LOT of families personally. Too many people fail to see how they will be affected by health care problems. But the realization that once coverage is lost - through a job change or shifting from someone else's coverage - there will be no more? Is something I would think everyone can understand - and fear.
