I am absolutely offended, this is nothing but a partisan and racist attack. I am beyond disgusted.

1. No. George H.W. Bush did the same thing when I was a freshman in high school
But the RW has gotten uglier and uglier. I don't remember liberals being up in arms over Poppy addressing us.

12. I must have called in sick that day, as a Sr. high teacher. I have no recollection of this.

3. I totally agree. This country is really going to hell.
The POTUS can't give a pep talk to students, women in wheelchairs are jeered at town meetings and Hitler signs are on the streets of America.

4. Offended, disheartened, but determined.

Can't let this go by unchallenged in any setting.

5. There are very quiet educators in many school districts who are delighted
to direct their students' attention toward a national address by the President of the United States.

I would like to hear their public declarations of support and enthusiasm for Barack Obama's speech.

7. If nothing else, this uproar should prove...
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 08:10 AM by Lemonwurst
...to the Administration, and any other Democratic representative for that matter, that it is not, has not been, and never will be about substance regarding the grievances of the right and their un-evolved following.

It's all about opposing everything the President does, not matter what. Be it racism, anti-Dem sentiment, political gamesmanship or any combination, that's all there is to it. And I bet President Obama and the Democratic party in general were not really expecting such a huge brainless revolt following such big gains in the 2008 elections. After all, they won fair and square, and by such a clear majority...

But those on the losing side don't just sit back and accept that change is inevitable. They are a simple kind, and deeply seated in their dark simplicity that, while confining, is comfortable. Hence their pride with abject stupidity. And the usual media morons are all too happy to play on this weakness.

So President Obama will *try* to be their president. But they won't let him, no way. Then he'll try again, and - you know the rest. He's smart, he has smart people in his Cabinet, so honestly - WHEN will they figure out to stop putting so much effort into a useless cause?

(edited for spelling)

8. We only have to zone it out the media machine is likely to make a lot of noise for 8 years....

Tuesday is going to be fantastic and that's the only thing we should be telling and emailing the president. All he really needs sometimes is our back, protests of support for the Prez would be good. 'Education first, is country first.' could be one good banner. A more improved education system is the rights biggest nightmare, as it can only mean they're doomed for generations.

Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 10:41 AM by AuntPatsy
they are doing their best to divide this country enough so that they can continue to rape pillage and utterly destroy our country and our dreams in order that they never dare lose what they have already pillaged so easily...

And if we don't stop the media outright and soon, they just might win..because regardless of what the media is spouting...the majority of our citizens are just NOT that stupid....and I firmly believe we outnumber the idiots ten to one but you would not know it by watching any of the high profile media outlets..unless of course you only tuned into Rachel..the rest are nothing more than air fillers...

14. Nope. Not at all.
This whole thing bites. I absolutely loathed George W. Bush but I didn't *instantly* burn the letter- with all of the lies and misinformation he used to promote the invasion/occupation- and picture :scared: that my stepdaughter got from him in response to her and her class writing letters to support the troops in Iraq.

Obama has been serving under a double standard ever since he was inaugurated as POTUS- not unlike what happened to Clinton during his Presidency. The hypocrisy of the Pubs and their corporate mediawhore enablers whenever a Democrat is POTUS NEVER ceases to amaze (and subsequently depress) me. I would just like to have Obama or somebody else call the Pubs out on their hypocrisy and double standards once and for all on national TV.

15. Even though I don't like the guy
He has the right to talk to school kids. He is, after all, the President. Being able to opt out of a Presidential address has never been an option before.
