The only proof I'll accept that the documents were fake...
...is proof that the contents are false. If the contents are false, then the documents are definitely fake. If the contents are true, then the legitimacy of the documents remains an open question.

1. Oh no, not this &*($#(#$ & again...
I can write some documents with *correct* content, but that doesn't mean that some Colonel in 1972 wrote them.

2. All I'm saying is the only way to conclusively prove they're fake...
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 09:50 AM by ClassWarrior
...is to prove the content is false. QED.

4. No, you are wrong.
The fakery of the documents is an entirely separate issue from the falseness of the contents. A forgery is a forgery. Other evidence for *'s behavior may be valid, but this is not, and frankly, the whole world is laughing at Dan Rather and CBS. If we keep pursuing this we waste valuable time that could be used more productively.

Further, I think the whole National Guard issue has be tainted by this issue and should be dropped. It may well be true, but, again, these documents will be brought up every time from now on and we cannot, I feel, may progress with it.

Of course, I could be wrong about that, but not abot my first sentence..

5. No, they WILL keep pursuing this...

...regardless of what we do. And we'd better fricking find a way to frame this or Rove and The Excuse pResident have won. By dropping it now, we're allowing them to innoculate the TANG issue.

9. This issue has been brought
up in previous * elections. It hasn't done any good. Now the man has a FOUR YEAR record to run on. This is what we should be hitting him on. If the FOUR YEAR record is not enough to defeat him, then this is laughable and desperate. IMHO. And the fact that the documents are now presumed to be forged already HAS inoculated *. time to move on to something else.

8. A document can also be real (from the time, typed by that person)...
...and have fake contents - lies. The two have nothing to do with each other.

3. Better than not having any documents at all.
These will have to do until Bush can find his.

6. Or tracing them back to Karl Rove
but that ain't gonna happen.

If I were CBS, I would be investing significant resources in tracing back the documents to their source.

10. This is getting pathetic
It's bad enough that DU'rs jumped all over people who were interested in considering the evidence before rushing to judgement, but please salvage what dignity you have left and accept the facts.
You know the content and the sentiment of the memos was real, but the memos as passed to CBS were fake. You were had. You were blinded by ideology.
Get over it and move on. And don't be a sucker, even for the good guys.
