Tweety was mad @ Rep. Wiener
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 04:30 PM by DJ13
Wiener said it doesnt take 60 votes to pass health care reform, and Chris got mad enough at that idea he sputtered then cussed "it took 60 votes to get us in a GOD DAMNED WAR!", and "so you're REALLY willing to start an Armageddon to get this passed?".

Reconciliation seems to be the ultimate nightmare to the triangulating corporatists.

lol.

1. Matthews has got to be one of the worst whores on TV
Bar none- that quite aside from the fact that his little hollerfest is largely unwatchable.

2. Can we get Lawrence O'Donnell back in that time slot, please?
I really think Matthews is about the conflict and not about the substance of any given issue.

And we don't really need more of that in the MSM.

6. That about sums up Matthews
He tends to be all over the place on issues and evidently thinks "conflict" is the way to inflate ratings and he's not very discriminating about how he creates conflict.

3. And Wiener mocked Tweety for his hyperbolics
Then went on to make his point. A thing of beauty is Wiener's no nonsense, unflappable demeanor. He even smiled broadly when he said that Rahm probably isn't taking his calls these days.

4. I didn't see anger so much as shock from Tweety, but Weiner stood strong and threw it all right back
at him. In the end, Tweety clearly seemed impressed with the man. Calling a spade a spade and sticking to one's guns in a fight like this is admirable, and I believe Tweety saw that in Weiner.

This isn't to say Tweety isn't a hollering fool for most segments of his show. Just to be clear. ;)

weiner presented the progressive position on healthcare reform, without letting chris get away with incorrect and misleading stats and quotes, or talk over him.

well worth catching this on the repeat show.

7. The 60-vote Senate rule is unconstitutional
should be ruled by the Chair as such, and ram the legislation through. Republicans can commit hari kiri for all I care!

No more appeasement!

17. Bullshit: Article I, Section 5:
Each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members, and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business; but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner, and under such penalties as each House may provide.

Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member.

Each House shall keep a journal of its proceedings, and from time to time publish the same, excepting such parts as may in their judgment require secrecy; and the yeas and nays of the members of either House on any question shall, at the desire of one fifth of those present, be entered on the journal.

Neither House, during the session of Congress, shall, without the consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days, nor to any other place than that in which the two Houses shall be sitting.

18. Blue dogs should be euthanized!
By your twisted interpretation, a GOP House could impose a supermajority on anything it wants.

19. No Blue Dogs, no majority
And yes, the House could create a rule requiring a supermajority to pas legislation. But that is unlikely, as the majority would probably not want to make it harder for themselves to get things done.

Because he sure seems to hate the idea of reform.

9. Larry O'Donnell explained again last night that reconcilation would destroy the bill.
Why can't people get that? It's not a simple up or down vote -- it's a complicated process full of rules that would water the bill down to nothing.

Reconciliation is probably exactly what the GOP wants. We end up with a crappy, empty bill and they can gloat that they had nothing to do with it. Great idea. :sarcasm:

20. Actually, you could enact single payer through reconciliation
You could open Medicare to everyone via reconciliation.

You're right, though, that there are certain insurance company reforms you couldn't pass through reconciliation.

16. I wish someone would point out to these fools
that the Congress is really the people's House and more equitably represents what the American people want.

The Democrats in the Senate who are holding up this bill represent a very small fraction of the people in the United States who have disproportionate impact on the laws that are passed.
