You know, I don't think Obama gives a shit about his poll numbers.
I think he really wants encourage, steer, ad sign-off on legislation that gives health care to all American citizens and cuts the costs of current health care.

What I believe most is that no matter what...he will not run for President in 2012. I believe that he feels he will have accomplished something very special in America...getting elected President when so many said it couldn't be done. I believe he will be satisfied with giving energy, health care reform, and the economy his best shot. I believe that he will feel that it is not his fault if people are too biased, bigoted, and ignorant to see what is happening to them and be willing to change. I believe that he will move on to raising two precious children to become great American citizens. I believe that he will devote the rest of his life and love to his help-mate in all things, Michelle. I believe that he will have earned the respect and admiration of the world for taking the chance, risking his life for what he believes in. Maybe I hope these things more than i believe them...even i don't know. But after watching many of town hall meetings on TV and watching and listening to the GOP spokespeople like Hatch, Armey, and wing nut talk show hosts like Hannity and Limbaugh and Beck, something of the "proud to be an American" spirit has died within me. I feel deep sadness, deep pity for sordid humanity, deep disappointment in my fellow citizens.

I believe that Americans will have failed to live up to the fairytale creed and standard we hold up to the world if health care reform fails this time and a better, fairer, more affordable system does not emerge from this effort. I believe that we lost our soul in Iraq and now we are losing our spirit.

4. BULLSHIT. He will run again. In 4 yrs, if healthcare passes, do you think
people will give a shit.. If things go right, we'll be back on track with a sustainable economy and people will have ALL been lifted up and not just that rich assholes that control our world now. That's what I really hope. I also hope we are done with all wars.

6. I'm pretty much certain he'll run in 2012
He'll likely win too, since the economy will be dandy by then, and whatever moderate healthcare reform passes will be enough to please a lot of people.

7. He's a politician
He cares about polls - and so do Axelrod and Emanuel.

He's also a pragmatist, so he cares about consensus and compromise.

He believes half a loaf is better than nothing, and that's a legitimate political stance. (though, I don't personally always agree with the outcome.)

"Politics is the art of the possible."

Obama seems to run his presidency with that firmly in mind.

11. I know, really...we should all be able to hold crystal balls in our hands
and predict the future. Don't we have to deal with 2010 first? One election at a time.

10. No one worries about poll numbers their first two years in office. Reagan's and Clinton's sucked.
They were re-elected.

'Nuff said.

14. I think most of you missed my point entirely.
It seems just like when the campaign was in full swing, nothing could be said about Obama unless it was regarded as absolute praise and adoration. I was not criticizing him...just making the point that I believe he is in his heart and spirit above all this crap and that he will be satisfied to have done his best for his country. Geeze folks, get the chips off your shoulders and take a deep breath!
